You are kidding right?
You say no margin for error? Then what the hell is SLOP doing in the biggest of pool games?
What to know why pool players are eating cracker ketchup sandwiches? Because pool players/promoters would cheat their own mother to get an extra $100 even if it brings the game down with them.
Golf set up rules (that most follow), they have a tour (not 15 tours), they all work together to make the game bigger and better, the players know they are not bigger than the game (will never happen in pool), I could go on and on.
What to know what I’m sick of, people who complain that there is no money in pool and then go to a league or a tournament and sandbag or cheat. Even the pros show little respect for the game. Earl cheating CW on national TV or John S leaving because he lost the first round to play golf to name a few huge “are you kidding me” moments of recent years.
Uggg, sorry for my rant, but don’t blame golfers if they get 80k after missing a putt, a putt that is usually being watched by tens of millions around the world. What is the most people watching any pool event at one time? Way more pressure then pool.
A couple of small things....even if you are just talking about USA, golf in fact does have several tours, not one.....and one of the most significant grass roots differences you didn't mention is as regards how the respective sports treat the subject of amateur/pro status.
Accept prize money or tuition fees in golf above a small fixed allowable amount and you are automatically disqualified from competing in any amateur events in the future (unless you apply for and are granted reinstatement after 1 or 2 years). Tens of millions of amateur golfers of a variety of abilities from 'hacker' to 'better than club pro' happily accept this rule without a murmur of complaint. The equivalent would not happen in pool for obvious reasons.
Enjoyed your rant though
