Diamond tables...WHY?

I have to ask, why do you not like the GC4, and what is it you like about the earlier III over the IV?

Sorry for not getting back sooner on this, just saw it. Anyway, little things really that probably wouldn't matter to anyone else. For the most part tables here in Japan have the ball return rather than drop pockets. I've yet to see a GCIV with the ball return where the balls don't occasionally roll into the drop box and then out onto the floor. This problem is so bad that, again, I've yet to see a GCIV here that the owner hasn't installed something in there to block the balls from bouncing out of the drop box.

The GCIV is also notorious for balls going into the side pocket, flipping over the rail underneath the table and dropping onto the floor. I honestly can't think of a time where I haven't seen that happen at least once a night when I'm at the pool hall.

The GCIV is poorly designed as far as their return system goes.

I like that Brunswick took the hint from Diamond and lowered the pocket liners but I gotta give them a thumbs down for keeping it that cheap plastic garbage that they've always used. The GCIV would look so rich if those liners were leather around the pocket opening.

As for playability, in my personal opinion the GCIII plays softer than the IV. I feel like the cushions are a bit stiffer. I have nothing to prove this, just a personal feeling.

Lot's of people place a piece of rug in the ball box on the GC's, this is why the balls fly out.....

I cant say I know a whole lot about the GC tables because I absolutely hate the way these tables play, I do however know that I have rarely ever experience a roll off on a diamond table and I would gather that having 22 leveling points would make the table all around "straighter" to play on. Along with the skid/slide theory mully was talking about on a table that has older cloth you are going to have to use more power to get position in certain situations and everybody knows that upping your stroke can decrease your accuracy thus making the pockets "tighter or stiffer"

It's all in what your used to....

I've played Brunswick all my life and rarely get a chance at a 9ft Diamond. That being said...Brunswick = gettin' out! Diamond = looking stupid!

They say it takes a bit of getting used to for a Diamond, but once you do its great. Kinda like a Preditor shaft...3 weeks and wala its great... but those 3 weeks is a freakin' nightmare!

A 7 ft Diamond is the nuts!

In my short experience with a pro-cut Diamond I don't think they are that much tougher than a well set up Gold Crown. I found the corners to be tough but fair, and accepted well stroked shots the same as is required on the Gold Crown.

You must play on GC's with buckets. I cordially invite you to try to "Get Out" on my table if you are ever in Los Angeles!!!!!

Its a GCI with 4" pockets and its not easy to run out on.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Diamonds also

Hey Turd!!!

How ya doing buddy??

Time for us to get together for another ring game soon, no??

Simple reason why Diamonds play tighter then a Brunswick with the same size pockets.Diamonds have a deeper shelf.Mullyman the problem with the ball return sounds more like a installer problem.I've got a GC5 with a ball return and never had a problem.I also have two Diamonds I picked up cheap. They both play great.

On that "Tighter than a Diamond" GC1 of yours? Here's the weight, I get to play with snooker sized balls. lol :grin-square:

I am looking forward to getting together, I have not been up in the valley on business, and was actually last up there when I placed my order with Ernie. Maybe sometime soon I hope!!!

I was talking about the GC4. I haven't had a chance to play on a 5 yet.

Well, in my opinion any table can be set up to be tough regardless of if it's a Brunswick, Diamond, Murray, Olhausen, whatever.... 4 inch pockets are 4 inch pockets and they're going to be extra tough no matter what table they're on. I think the poster you replied to was talking in general that Brunswick tables play a little more forgiving than the Diamond.

And I would imagine that reference would be in regard to the deep-shelf Diamond tables.

What's going on in Manhattan Beach, are you in a tournament? I've not been to Mr. Pockets, let me know how it is. And if you are competing - GOOD LUCK!!

Could be, I honestly wouldn't know because, like I said earlier, I've only played on a Diamond table once and that was at least 10 years ago. But I remember that I really liked how the table played and enjoyed myself that day. I was on a trip back home at the time.
