Tiger soft tip issues

Had a Tiger-soft layered tip installed yesterday by someone who didn't use a lathe. The sidewalls are sorta rough and frayed, even after burnishing.

Is this just the way these tips are, or is there something that I can do to make the appearance better.

I am also concerned about this leading to delamination.

Despite all this, the tip has a nice feel and produces good cue ball action.
 
The Tiger softs are much like the Snipers in that they demand a professional install. With what you've said I'm afraid yours "may" be ruined. First thing is to take your finger and push up on the side of the tip....if you see any movement then its already a delam and needs replaced. If pushing on the side you see no movement and it appears firm and solid then it should be fine. About the best you'll be able to do without a lathe is to carefully sand the tip sides with some 400 or 600. Take care not to sand your ferrule...you may even be wise to skip the sanding part until you can get to a professional. Next is to take some spit or water and lightly dampen the sides of the tip. Then take either a piece of leather or a square of brown cardboard (no writing or ink on the cardboard) and then rub/burnish the tip sides fairly firmly until they slick up. This will be about as good as you can do until you can get to a quality cue repairman and can get the tip dressed properly. Hope this helps. :)
