Questions I would like to ask......Galveston Big Money Event.

I would really like to know how many PAID entries we are talking about. Not that it matters I guess, they say it will go forward no matter what so I hope that is the case. They claimed in Vegas to already have 100 one hole players which seemed pretty damned good to me. But there is a big difference between "I'll play the one hole" and "Here is my entry check"

Justin,
Very few tournaments give out those numbers and that is understandable. Pool players like most people, wait until the last minute to part with their cash and promoters don't like to advertise that fact of nature.

One thing that increases the chances of someone sending in their cheese early is if the number of players are limited to a relatively small number.

I am kind of surprised that some of the professional players DON'T play in the one pocket division but will play in the ten ball. While they are there, you would think they would take a shot at the EXTRA $25,000 for first place in the one pocket division.

Tom,

I think that if you want to dramatize, then use a bigger number when showing added money. If you are sincere in showing a comparison, use the same amount of added for both. ;)

Ray,
Why don't you just cut and paste my data and insert your suggestions?

That way you will get what you want without me having to redo it your way.

IMO it is important to show that the promoter, by guaranteeing $50,000 first place prize, it is shorting the rest of the field by a huge difference in payouts and also saves the Promoter money.

The more entries in the event the more they save. Adding 50k was never on the table. So why inflate the number when comparing to an added money event?

I could care a less what the numbers are. I'm just pointing out that you are dramatizing by comparing their payouts to an inflated number and not the same number.

Ray,
Do you think there are other posters that don't understand my posts?

It is all about how the players will see the $$$ breakdown for the payouts. BTW, if is was "never on the table" how did they come up with this format? there had to be some type of comparison, right? Were you at the table? or is this just second hand info? or you guessing?

I could care a less what the numbers are. I'm just pointing out that you are dramatizing by comparing their payouts to an inflated number and not the same number.

Not sure why you say you don't care about the numbers, but point out the numbers of the two types of payout formats. The inflation comes with the comparison of the % of payouts for the two different formulas. The way that is NORMAL (common) and their WAY (not common).

They are the ones who said "We have 100 for the one pocket already" I am just curious if that is paid entry or verbal confirmation.

I hope they fill all the fields. I also hope they get this communication issue straightened out.

So here it is, late afternoon on Tuesday, and still no communication from this group. Sure makes you go...HMMMMMM. In Vegas they were bragging about the Open event being nearly full already (and 200+ teams SIGNED UP already), and how, if the pros didn't fall in line pretty quick, they were likely to get 'skunked' of even being able to play. A lotta bluster, but no data to back it up. I still think that the promoters should SHOW the escrow on the 'guaranteed 1st Place prize money'. If it is escrowed somewhere, then it can be verified. If Trudeau had been forced to do this, there would not have been the fiasco with his event.

Pool Fans,

I just spoke to Bobby Rone. After further consideration, he does not think
there is any reason to chat with 6-7 people from AZ Forums at this time. He said that I could ask him all the questions that I wanted. I was driving at the time so I was unable to ask very many. He was defensive and raised his voice when I suggested that they really needed to address some of the concerns.

I asked him directly how they would determine who was a master level player. He said, "if they are listed on the BCA Master list, they are a master." period. No further determinations would be made! He also claimed to have over 225 teams & over 140 10 ball entrants PAID!!

There will be no further effort by me to organize a chat.

I'm on my phone typing this. I have more to add, but will wait till I get to my laptop.

You may post your questions on their website now!

Ray...This pretty much says it all, imo. I hope this event comes off like gangbusters, but I wouldn't bet my last dollar on it! Seems like more of the "SSDD".

I concur with the post JCIN made in reference to the latest "news". At this point, all anyone can do is shake their head. Their intentions might be the best ever and they might have had all kinds of phenomenal ideas but they didn't follow through. I can appreciate having the best of intentions and genuinely wanting to do something good and ultimately getting fed up & frustrated by the constant doubt but in this industry, that has to be expected. If they had done a fraction of their homework on the pool world, they would know that as stated before, not many are willing to follow the pied piper anymore.

They needed to be prepared to fade the resistence and because they weren't/aren't, they just shot themselves in the foot with their recent actions. Way to go "Bobby", brilliant move.

Ray, thanks for trying. As I'm sure you've learned in the past, no good deed goes unpunished.

100 in the one pocket sounds FANTASTIC.

Here is hoping the event goes off beyond the greatest expectations and that all the players have the time of their life.

Good luck to all that attend and play.

looks like a few entries are committed

Joey,

The site does say that all entry fees will be paid back now. They are also stating over $550,000 in total prizes now with only $195,000 committed to first place monies if my quick count was right. I just woke up but ain't they saying that there will be almost 65% being paid to the rest of the field or else the first place prizes will be even more than advertised. Either way, present claims on the website makes it look like a nice payday deep into the field.

They are promising the formula for the payouts "soon" but they do seem to be on their own timeframe and they don't consider any of the minor time commitments they make along the way to be important. Timelines for "big announcements" come and go with no announcements and the chat commitment seems to have disappeared when people wanted answers to questions they might not have answers to yet.

At the end of the day I think this thing will come off and it will be a hell of an event. Money talks and a half million on the table is pretty serious cheese in anyone's book. I am beginning to suspect that people are going to have to make commitments to the event on faith though, seems that answers to all of our questions are going to be very hard to come by.

Wow, yesterday I registered on their New and Improved website, posted a question about VIP Seating costs and today it was deleted.

You've asked too many questions Tom. You must have fallen into the "trouble maker" category! LOL.

I tried to get them to answer ALL our questions in one swipe. I guess I'm the King trouble maker.
