Too bad, you could probably slip into the Amateur events and win your fair share. Also, I would have thought you would have a number 4. SPECTATOR, you know, to help support the pool industry. I know you support the pool industry from time to time, just bustin your balls.

So Joey, I have to ask you: there are a lot of events out there that you are silent on. And then there is this one. Now admittedly, this one is being promoted as a big un.
But you have been cheer leading this, to such an extent, that I'm getting PMs and emails and phone calls asking me, "What's with Joey? Why is he so crazy about this event? Why is he carrying Taylor Production's water on this? Why is he pushing so hard? Would he be as 'supportive' if this was being held out in LA or Oregon or Maine? IOW, is the fact that it is only six hours drive from you a factor?"
Many have noticed that you are way over the top in your enthusiasm for this event, not only with your support, but in the manner you berate those you choose to identify as "non-believers."
So I ask you, in light of your extraordinary efforts for this particular event, why are you pushing so hard? Why are you carrying their water? What's in for you? Or, are we all to believe you have no personal interest in this and are doing it to just "support the pool industry?"

Had a ring game to run today, missed the chat. The transcripts was just too hard for me to read. Did the actual chat look the same?
Did anyone ask how they would determine if someone that doesn't play league is a "master" player? You certainly can't look to the leagues if they don't play there.

For a guy who says he doesn't spend much time at the computer you are responding faster than a parrot.
I didn't answer your question because I thought I would string you along a little while and it was fun but I have to save some of my computer time for some of my other friends so I will try to help you out.
The Galveston Texas tournament has personal meaning to me, not just because the promoters are trying to bring pool to television, not just that they are attempting to do something GREAT for pool, not just that they are earnest in their efforts, not just that they all share a GREAT REPUTATION in their respective fields outside of pool, not just that they are hosting a tournament of enormous proportions for many people from many different skill levels and backgrounds, not just that the payouts are incredible numbers, not just that; well I'm sure by now you get the picture, at least I hope so.
It is their first BIG rodeo and the first one is always the toughest even without a negative crowd howling like wolves.I'm the type of guy who likes to give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong, unlike some people. ;-)
BTW, I fly to most of the big tournaments as I don't particularly care for driving even if it is only 6 hours away. This next weekend I'm going to Atlanta for the Gem City Classic and even though it isn't much farther than Galveston I'm flying because that's what I enjoy doing.
This group of promoters bring new and innovative ideas to the pool tournament business and I think we should give them an opportunity to fail or succeed on their own.
All of the whining that I have heard on AZ Billiards main forum is excessive in my opinion and apparently the opinion of many others.
I don't mind the questions and actually I approve of the questions that the forum brought forth.
It is the manner and tone of some of the posts that I detest. I want AZ Billiards to become a better forum than it already is. That improvement can come with members being more tolerant and more pleasant to their fellow posters as well as new people coming into the pool industry putting their hard earned money to work. This improved attitude would allow the thousands of posters who remain silent or anonymous to bring forth their thoughts and ideas to the rest of the members who believe that a bigger forum is a better forum.
I've already listed the negative comments in a previous thread and they are still there for you and all to see. If you don't view those comments as negative, you are who you are and I can't say much more about that.
Anyway back to the personal stuff which is really quite minor because of the personal nature. I have a personal interest in seeing Galveston, Texas get back on their feet and if a pool tournament like www.theworldclassic.com is going to help them get back on their feet, in my own way I would like to make my personal contribution by supporting them not only with my words but with my presence.
You see, Lou, every single one of my relatives of that era died in The Great Hurricane of 1900 except for my grandfather who was 16 years old at the time. He was orphaned in Galveston; no family, no friends, no one and after a year in an orphanage he made his way to Louisiana where he started a new life and the family began anew.

Senor, where did you see that announcement about the one-pocket? If they're going to drag it out over 7 days, I'm not going to be able to attend. I read that the 1P FINALS will delay for one week.

What Bobby Rone said in the COMMENTS SECTION OF THE WEB SITE is that the one pocket finals would be on Thursday, the 17th.
This is the FIRST National/International one pocket tournament that I know of that started on a FRIDAY in YEARS. Amateurs like you and I can get in our hits over the weekend and be gone by Monday morning if we choose to.
I really love the idea that the one pocket starts on a Friday. It frees up the weekend quite nicely.
How many days the one pocket matches last depends entirely upon how many people show up. I recall reading something that said that the matches wouldn't be held up to stretch out the tournament but that the finals would occur on one particular day. Now the promoters have shown the one pocket event a little grace.
The Men's Ten Ball starts on Wednesday, the 16th, which means to me that the one pocket will most likely be wrapped up by Tuesday except for the One Pocket finals on Thursday the 17th.

I guess my question is why do you call people whiners who have legitimate questions about a promised half million dollar event put on by people who up until the last couple weeks showed no real inclination to answer any questions?
Are you personally guaranteeing this event will go off and all monies will be paid? If you are not then you are way far out on a limb.
These chat sessions and their message board may be what puts the event over the top and make the difference between survival or failure. If that is the case maybe all the AZ "whiners" will be to thank for putting the heat on to communicate thereby making a big difference.
I know one local guy who SWORE up and down all star teams were allowed until I showed him where they weren't. This guy was gonna book a trip to play with his all stars because he didn't know where to get the straight scoop. Just a small example of what a few "whiners" on AZ can do to get the word out. It is about two months before the event and most people still have no clue what is going on.
If being a "whiner" helps make the promoters answer enough questions to get out of their own way and create a success then I guess I will live with that.
You know what would have made all the difference? What would have stopped almost all questions? It is something I think any new promoter should try and do and that is simply post the guaranteed money (in this case the first places). You can talk all you want about Corvettes and this and that. Instead of that flash how about an escrow account with the funds to be paid out to the event winners directly from the bank? Boom 90% of the concerns are eliminated. Everything else is details. Every single person on this board would be as gung ho as you. Me included. If a promoter doesn't want to do that then they better be ready for "whiners" asking questions.
I have had my issues with the way the promoters have handled things but it is their event and they will live with the results of their decisions. I hope they succeed because that makes my life easier. More money in pool means more money in action means more work for me. I guess what has me a little miffed is your seemingly sudden attitude towards some pretty established people not only here but in the pool world in general. Believe it or not most of the people I have talked to in the industry would fall squarely in your definition of "whiner".
If these guys are just saying "screw everyone, we are doing it our way" more power to them, hell I believe the industry needs more of that, but don't be surprised when people don't just jump on the band wagon.

People can take reasonably different views on the same issue -- it makes the world go round and all that. And as far as I can see, there would appear to be a lot of good info, finally coming out, because people did take the time and effort to express their questions, concerns and frustrations.

While I enjoyed playing you along and doing the banter thing with you, I have come to the realization that the banter is not something that some people can control, you nor me. The banter eventually morphs into things that neither party wanted it to change into and for the most part it accomplishes nothing. The stringing you along doesn't really accomplish anything either and it was childish of me to do so.
An example of the banter morphing into strange things is while you are trying to make a point about something, you stoop to talking about giving quarterbacks handjobs.
I've teased you about your girdle being too tight and that wasn't very nice either. :embarrassed2:
So I while I had some dandy responses to your post I thought that the good of the forum would be better served by letting you get back to putting your furniture together.
If you change your mind about the Galveston Tournament, it woud be great to see you again.

The forum really doesn't need any of the name calling including "whiners".
These guys are trying to do something good for pool.
While they may not be doing exactly the way that you or I would like them to do it, they deserve our support or at least that's the way I view it.
