Superglues are not created equal.

You have gel...moisture cure....with rubber...

The reason for the post.

See the link and then I will tell you what I have been told.

Loctite superglues are not created equal...therefore I would assume other manufacturers glues are not created equal.

The best glue on the market for superglue and cue tips...

Loctite Prism ....411 notice the cost...it isnt cheap. Look at the specs

Curious to hear the response on this. Input and comparisons if any...

I am now using the Gorilla brand toughened glue. It is performing very well for me and happens to be a reasonable price and readily available from home depot etc.
Loctite do make a good product, but is not readily available like other glues.

This is what I use for tips:

Readily available, relatively cheap, and works extremely well.
I guarantee tips against coming off, I always have, and very rarely have had to make good on it.
I make sure and buy fresh glue fairly often, cyanoacrylates age poorly.

Gorilla super glue
impact-tough formula

works great for me!

light sanding or light score (with sharp utility blade)
of both tip & ferrule is needed for better bonding!!!

it's not as thick as loctite 454.
(which I've used for years)

Hello:
Here is what I was told by Loctite.
Ron,

I've heard of people using our gel cyanoacrylates (super glues). Some use the 454, which is brittle, but seems to work pretty well. Others use a rubber-toughened kind like the Black Max 426 Gel, if you don't mind the adhesive being black. If you need clear, try 4205 instead. All of these would be sold through the industrial channel.

Ron,

Yes, we have lots of cue mfg's using our cyanoacrylates to glue on the tips. Since your plastic is phenolic, and some of the tips are porous, I think I'd evaluate the 426 (black) and 4205 (clear) rubber toughened products.

There are sooooo many Loctite products who knows the right answer.
When I put the shaft into the lathe and press the tips on with the tail stock I think sometimes I press out too much of the glue.
How much pressure do you guys use when putting the tip on?
Thanks
Ron

As long as they don't dry brittle most on the market are good for cue tips. A lot of the attributes that many high end and very expensive super glues have don't apply to cues. It doesn't matter how many chemicals they can stand up to or how high a heat they can stand. The demands of applying a cue tip are very low

I had wondered about the Gorilla Glue Super Glue...it says it is an impact tough formula. I agree the availability and pricing must be easy to access and easy on the pocket. Home Depot has this product

GORILLA SUPER GLUE
You asked for it. Or maybe secretly wished for it. And now it's here. Introducing new Gorilla™ Super Glue, the first super glue that keeps holding strong, even when the bond takes a hit--we call it our Impact-Tough™ Formula. Just hold in place for 30-60 seconds while the formula sets, no clamping necessary. It's what makes Gorilla™ Super Glue, so, well, super.

IMPACT STRENGTH– unique rubber particles increase impact-resistance and strength to handle everyday use after your repair or creation is set.
WON'T CLOG – anti-clog tip with metal pin keeps nozzle clean.
EASY TO USE – thick formula flows better for improved control. Dries in just 30-60 seconds, with no clamping.
WHATEVER THE SURFACE– use on nearly anything, from wood to plastic, glass, metal, ceramics and a whole lot more!

I have used loctite 411 but you cant find it anywhere and the price is too high. It does work very well though.

Does the Gorilla super glue expand like the regular Gorilla Glue?

No it does not. It is a cyano, not a poly eurathane.
I have used gorilla for about 11 months now. No problems.

Gorilla super glue works great.
The white poly glue, even better if you are not pressed for time.
