What Pin Size/Thread and Why?

There are a bunch of different pin sizes and even different thread counts on the same size pin (3/8x10 or 3/8x11).

Why does a cuemaker choose one over the other?

Just wondering.

Personal preference

IMHO, it's just a matter of personal preference. All the pin does is hold the cue together.

Some people talk about one pin giving a better hit than another. I (personally) find this questionable.

Some are advanced design in the way they install and the way the shaft alines when it is screwed on. Some I have a feeling are a farce though. Just different for the sake of being different.
 
IMHO, the pins with a locator of some sort are better than others, (when installed correctly) and actually deserve to be called "pins." The average 3/8x10 is just a big wood screw.

I started using the 3/8-10 screw, becaise it was the simplest. You basically drill & tap one hole in the butt, where the screw is glued in & one hole & tap for the shaft...JER
