have we determined where Poppa G's is located?

Poppa G's

Poppa G's is a medium-sized pool room in Pelham, Alabama that is about ten miles south of Birmingham, Alabama. I have not been there in about a year, so I am not sure about the "2" part of the title. Maybe they added another room, or a different owner has bought it. I really don't know.

I do know they had a US Open Qualifier last year at Poppa's, and it was a good little tournament. As I remember, Harold Macabee (spelling?) from Tuscaloosa won the tournament over Tim Orange, with Jo JO Cole being in third.

Don't think you will roll into Alabama and steal a Qualifier from the Rednecks. Poppas is THE place for any pool action in the Birmingham area, and there are several quality players in the state (Scotty Townsend, David Rowell, and several other good shortstops that can play well). In addition, the Huntsville and Mobile area have some good players also, and they tend to drive down when the money is right. I believe Pickle has come down to Poppas a few times too, and ATL is just too darn close (smile). Should be a good one if word gets out.

The bar has a very friendly atmosphere and is located in a safe area with plenty of hotels and good restaurants close by.

They usually run a calcutta with their tourneys that is not too shabby of a payout.

If you are within two or three hours of a drive, the tourney would be worth your trip.I don't understand an 8pm start though. Maybe Jason could explain the schedule a little better when he re-posts with some more information.

Just a little info to help you out.

Not in Birmingham

Ok, I just found the other post that has the tournament flyer, and it is in Anniston, Al. not Pelham. Anniston is about an hour closer to Atlanta. That should make things very interesting folks. A lot of good talent is just a short two hour drive away.

I am sorry I forgot to atatch the flier to this post and it had the directions on the back. Yes it is in anniston, al, wich is half way between Birmingham and Atlanta on I-20.
