I do. And I don't play better than CUBC.........
Does that mean "she gets the 7 for life"?
I do. And I don't play better than CUBC.........
Not for me, but I am not the only one that teaches in Orlando and the surrounding area. I think that when it is offered for free, it cheapens the value and damages the market for instruction.
I know all of the people involved in this effort, to include the room owner, and I know that they are not doing this maliciously to damage anybody or their business. They honestly want to help players and draw players into this room.
Wayne is a great person, a great player, and he has a wealth of knowledge that can assist many players if they show up to listen and to learn.
Michell is friend of mine also, a great player, and very qualified to teach players of all levels.
I've never seen Shanelle teach. I really don't know her, so I can't comment either way. If she is a beginning instructor, this a great way to learn. Being around Wayne and Charlie and watching and listening will also be a plus for her.
Charlie is world class player, and IMO a world class instructor also. Anyone that think that they won't learn something from Charlie is kidding themselves. If he's giving free lessons, there should be a line forming in the parking lot.
The only problem I see, is that the free lessons will send out the message that others (including myself) are charging excessively. I don't know how much others charge for lessons - but I'm pretty sure its not free. The "free" part is the part that surprised me. I can't compete with that, then again I never teach at this pool hall. I play there often, but my classes are held elsewhere.
Is this going to damage anybody? I'm not sure. My market is with books, video evaluation, coaching, etc - and I really don't work with many beginner or intermediate players. I am more geared for the advanced players, regional tour players, the mental game, etc. The affect it will have on me is minimal to non-existent, but I think it will affect the BCA instructors in this area. Just remember, its one night a week - Tuesday at one particular pool hall.
Its not gonna hurt me.
The idea is to have player have access to the pros, and to generate business for Corner Pockets. Corner Pocket is a beautiful pool room, but it has struggled. Its great to see people showing interest in trying to keep a great room open for business.
The free part - well I don't really agree with it. Like I said, I completely expect at the next 9 ball course I teach, I will have some smart ass interrupt me to tell my students that they can get the same (or better) instruction for free down at Corner Pockets. There's nothing I can do about that.
lol
The one word that comes to mind when I read your post is - Absurd.
I could justify the absurdity with many examples and explanations but its not worth it. From previous posts you've made on the subject, you have your way of thinking and I have mine. I will take a moment to point out one thing. Due to the way she dresses, there are some folks out there that are not aware of the magnitude of the assets Ms Corr has. Her assets could probably spot Shanelles assets just as much weight as Ms Corrs game could spot Ms Lorraines. The difference (besides the obvious pool playing ability) is that Ms Corr has more class and uses her skills to get noticed in the pool world instead of using her assets to get noticed and to hide her lack of skills. Outside of that point, I'm going to agree to disagree with your train of thought on Ms Lorraines lack of clothing.

Yeah and just for the record we're not in court.
And, also the Judge passes the verdict/judgement.
Black Cat
Of course, you are right.
But also just for the record next time CW pulls his shit on a woman I consider a friend I WILL frickin judge his a$$ and he'll spend the rest of his life as "Charlene"!
Have a nice day.
No, she can't run two balls much less a rack, therefore she isn't qualified to teach.
$20 says she giggles, bats her eyes, and uses the term "perfect rack" during her "lesson".
Yes I have heard about this before. I was not aware that he advertised it though. :nono:
I must have missed something here. It clearly states that it is geared towards beginners and intermediates. It is a free promotion with the possibility of turning casual or non players into fans of the game and maybe more. What could possibly be wrong with this?
I understand that there is a lot of charlie bashing on here. It is well likely deserved, but I do not want to get into the politics of that.
I am just saying why would ANYONE have any problem with somone trying to promote the game to newer players? Other more qualified teachers have been mentioned, but are they teaching for free? To someone who is just starting out, I think this would be a great thing, and who knows? Maybe one of these new players stick with it, and will call up some of these other instructors in the future when they are serious enough to pay for some lessons.
If you can run 3 balls consistantly, and know how to stand at the table properly, you have something to offer a true beginner. Walk into any poolroom and you will see FAR more misinformation and advice that is trying to pass for instruction. This has to be better for the game and new players than that!
I think this is sad. I have seen people try to do something to promote the game, and have people jump all over them. Then a minute later everyone says " Why won't someone do something for the good of the sport?" , and wonder why pool is in such the sad state that it is in.
Where is the downside to this? What am I missing?
Any of the more qualified people willing to schedule a weekly FREE lesson?
Let me know, so I can criticize you mercilessly for having good intentions, and say I know someone who is far more qualified ( but of course won't do it for free).
I remember many years ago, I worked at a pool room in Chicago. There was an older lady who used to put on a group pool seminar. She had prob NEVER run a rack in her life, but she loved the game so much. Her enthusiasm was absolutely contagious. Me and her " students" were glad to have here there. These people had so much fun. They were introduced to a great game in a comfortable and fun atmosphere. She did provide a very good and sound introduction. She did not pass herself off as a highly skilled player either.
I used to teach some lessons out of the room, (beginner and intermediate). Many of these players would seek out more help after their initial introduction.
Who has a problem with trying to get new players to fall in love with this game and get them out into the pool halls? There have been so many closing in my area, I am for ANYTHING that would mean more revenue to a local pool hall. Hopefully, it will be enough to keep the ones I go to open so I can still enjoy the game that I love.
