Free Pool Lessons! With Shanelle Loraine, Wayne Catledge & More at Corner Pockets,FL

english isn't my native language, so help me, if i misunderstood: i understood, shanelle lorraine will give lessons in a pool? can someone tell me, in which kind of sports...

Every Tuesday from 630pm-8pm Corner Pocket Billiards provides free pool lesson to all players. Most of this is catered towards beginner and intermediate level players.

Billiards celebrity Shanelle Loraine, senior pro Wayne Catledge, and others will alternate each Tues for the weekly lessons. House pro Charlie Williams will also jump in from time to time.

The past few months Corner Pockets has hosted free lessons with Shanelle, top FL pro Michell Monk, and Charlie Williams.

Tomorrow night July 21 Shanelle Loraine will be teaching.

No cost to sign up. To register call Corner Pockets at (407) 282-5894 or email cornerpocketsorlando@gmail.com

IM gonna need to see a flyer of her bending over a pool table before I make the 12 hour drive down there.

Free pool lessons that can attract new people to our beloved sport and many here bash the offer? What bad can come from this???

I find this type of reaction absolutely pathetic. No wonder this sport always trips over its own self.

It's politics, favorites and selfishness that rule, not the better interest.

So no 8ball,9ball, or 1 pocket? Dave show some heart!

How is staying at the table until you miss/safe not showing heart? I hate breaking 8/9-ball and not making a ball and giving a luckbox a chance. I'd rather have them sit for a while while I'm running some 14.1 and when I miss / safe--- they're on zero.

What am I talking about??? I'm just windbagging. I'd never bet her that water is wet. As a matter of fact, I'm checking airline tix to fly out there and get my free lesson. I need it.

Shanelle?

Has Shanelle ever even broke and ran a rack? I'd take lessons from many female pros, including our own az'er Sarah Rousey. I wouldn't take lessons from someone unless I thought they could beat me, and I do not think Shanelle can beat me. Isn't she just Charlie Williams' poster girl?

David, do you see this as serious competition to the demographic you serve?

Not for me, but I am not the only one that teaches in Orlando and the surrounding area. I think that when it is offered for free, it cheapens the value and damages the market for instruction.

I know all of the people involved in this effort, to include the room owner, and I know that they are not doing this maliciously to damage anybody or their business. They honestly want to help players and draw players into this room.

Wayne is a great person, a great player, and he has a wealth of knowledge that can assist many players if they show up to listen and to learn.

Michell is friend of mine also, a great player, and very qualified to teach players of all levels.

I've never seen Shanelle teach. I really don't know her, so I can't comment either way. If she is a beginning instructor, this a great way to learn. Being around Wayne and Charlie and watching and listening will also be a plus for her.

Charlie is world class player, and IMO a world class instructor also. Anyone that think that they won't learn something from Charlie is kidding themselves. If he's giving free lessons, there should be a line forming in the parking lot.

The only problem I see, is that the free lessons will send out the message that others (including myself) are charging excessively. I don't know how much others charge for lessons - but I'm pretty sure its not free. The "free" part is the part that surprised me. I can't compete with that, then again I never teach at this pool hall. I play there often, but my classes are held elsewhere.

Is this going to damage anybody? I'm not sure. My market is with books, video evaluation, coaching, etc - and I really don't work with many beginner or intermediate players. I am more geared for the advanced players, regional tour players, the mental game, etc. The affect it will have on me is minimal to non-existent, but I think it will affect the BCA instructors in this area. Just remember, its one night a week - Tuesday at one particular pool hall.

Its not gonna hurt me.

The idea is to have player have access to the pros, and to generate business for Corner Pockets. Corner Pocket is a beautiful pool room, but it has struggled. Its great to see people showing interest in trying to keep a great room open for business.

The free part - well I don't really agree with it. Like I said, I completely expect at the next 9 ball course I teach, I will have some smart ass interrupt me to tell my students that they can get the same (or better) instruction for free down at Corner Pockets. There's nothing I can do about that.

lol

Its rare that I'm left speechless but this is one of those times. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Maybe I'll just laugh until I cry. :rotflmao:

It is either a joke or the worst press release I have every seen. It slaps Shanelle mightily refusing to call her a pool player and it acknowledges charlie has a tendency to jump in from time to time, a long rumored propensity.

Hu
DP has already proven that an appropriate press release is not one of their strong points. As for the verbiage being a slap to Shanelle - think of it this way - Better to slap someone with reality than it is to ignore reality, call it something it isn't and then suffer the wrath/crucifixion this board would impale upon DP & CW for daring to call a spade something other than a spade. ;)

Well, at least they're charging what it's worth.

You get what you pay for!

Its going to attract guys that want to come look at her T&A while she bends over the table that have no desire to actually learn the game. Besides, if you want to better the sport, use people who can actually make it better. Looking better is not being better. IMO

This should be moved to the joke thread in NPR. At least he isn't charging it is said to be free. From what I have seen of Loraine playing she would be lucky to win the D event at the local drunks pub.
If they charged there'd be a riot from everyone wanting refunds.

This does NOTHING for pool and billiards. It makes it a joke and a laughingstock.

Before I played, I found myself and a friend in danny veghs(a regianal table store in the Cleveland area). They were giving free beginner lessons to thier customers, kind of as a way of enjoying thier table more. But anyone could watch and take part. They just had basic info on aiming, simple one rail postion and stance/stroke/grip ect. To me, was worth the world as it got me into pool. And one day I will buy a table from them as a thank you. But although the class was taught by a bca instructor, it could have very well been taught by a good B player. It was all simple info and not geared to anyone who already knows the game.

I think this is a similar deal. I think shanelle could teach me a lot, some of which I'm sure could happen on a pool table. But none if which would be about the game :)

Heard Shanelle beat girl who got 2nd to Jasmin at European Championships this year. Veronika something, she beat Jeanette Lee on TV and then Shanelle beat her. This happened at the World 10Ball Championship. I think Loraines game has improved alot

Shanelle has clearly shown the dedication and once she has the experience she will really be a big deal with tons of endorsements. Laugh at an up and coming player who is getting better and better for giving beginner lessons all you want but Shanelle will be laughing all the way to the bank.

The DP events she plays in over in Asia are jokes. JL gets paid quite well to go do those events. It certainly isn't for the "competition" she receives in a race to 3 or 5 on a crappy table in less than stellar playing conditions.

The most recent tournament you mentioned should read "World 10 ball Championship*". You forgot the asterik because it wasn't a true world championship by any stretch.

When I see Shanelle earning her status in the pool world by what she accomplishes on the pool table (minus the cleavage) then I'll be happy to support her. As it is, she isn't even playing in regional tours which is where the WPBA gets its players from. Yu Ram played in regional events and Yu Ram plays in events against the men because she can actually play. Shanelle only "plays" in the Asian gaff events that DP puts on. Unless she's secretly sparring like mad against CW, Thorsten, & a few others in FL behind closed doors, I don't see her doing anything publicly to increase her game. JMO
