Live Streaming: How Do They Do It?

Friends, I don't know if this had been asked before
but here goes:

A friend and I are thinking of possibly live streaming
or recording some of the matches that take place
at the pool halls we frequent, e.g., matches involving
Efren Reyes, Rodolfo Luat, Dennis Orcollo, Django Bustamante,
Ronnie Alcano, etc., and we are kinda hoping for some
info on how to go about it.


How do you go about live streaming a match?
What are the equipment needed to do such?
Do I need to go to a specific website to do such?

Many thanks in advance for any info, friends.

A good camera with a fire wire port, laptop with a fire wire port, decent mics either input into your camera or through a usb audio mixer. Set up a Ustream account, Justin TV or Livestream.com and you are broadcasting. It sounds easy and to a point it is but you will have glitches and problems along the way but if your savvy enough you will fix it plus a few of us have been streaming for awhile and have been there and done it so we can help you. :smile:

All great tips from one the masters of streaming... but let's not forget about some kind of reliable internet connection with good up bandwidth to stream. ...and also nice lighting helps immensely. ;)
 
Oooooh that would be awesome if you do this. It would almost make me want to take a sick day to watch.

You ask some very good questions that apply to anyone who is interested in getting started with Live-Streaming.

I would imagine that a business could be started for new Live-Streamers.

The business could sell "packages" of equipment designed to easily set up Live-Streamers. There could be a Silver, Gold and Platinum Package which could include X amount of hours of consulting. The national wholesalers just might give a discount to volume sellers that might not be available to the general public.

Experienced Live-Streamers could design a set up for basic Live-Streaming, advanced and professional levels.

A lot of information is available free of charge as Lenny mentioned and maybe that would work but some people may like to pay a reasonable fee for quality information and service.

The target audience is at the minimum, most pool rooms around the country. The Live Streaming equipment could also be used by instructors to film their students and by individuals who want to have their game analyzed.

ALSO: You may want to GOOGLE: How to Live Stream. There are numerous sites which give a defined explanation of live streaming but I don't know enough about it to tell you which links offer the best information.

Your right about the internet, I have used wireless at a bunch of events and it has not been too bad. I check my internet by an online speedtest, I have streamed with as little as 300 kbps upload but 500+ is always nice. Most poolrooms average about 400-500 from what I have seen, most are concerned with download speeds when they get internet but upload is what is important when your streaming.

I know lighting is bad in most places unless your in a casino or hotel environment, but in poolrooms it is usually dark so a good camera where you can adjust iris, shutter speed and gain really helps a ton. I think you can set up a very good live stream for about $2500-$3500 if you get stuff on the used market like Ebay or Craigslist.
