Thanks guys! I always have my regrets on certain choices, but it's interesting to get other's opinions.
Regarding the things that were mentioned:
I'm still experimenting with wood combinations, so the wood I've used may not have been the "top-of-the-line" stuff as far as color and figure. When I find a combination that I'm happy with, I may reproduce the design with higher grade wood. However, I was intentionally going for a more subtle color difference in my choice of wood type.
I've normally (but not always) used the same wood for the butt sleeve that I use in the forearm. As far as using the "point wood" for the butt sleeve, can you point me to some example pics Jim? BTW, the "red" wood is Padauk.
I wasn't happy with the butt sleeve inlays either. It was a lame attempt to mimic the outer black veneer and the inner Padauk point. I wish I hade used Ebony for both....and OMG, they're NOT done with a magic marker
