Well, I finally finished a few more. Here's a Bubinga with a wrapless Jatoba handle.

I'm still getting use to a new camera. Sorry for the poor pic quality.

It was really an arbitrary choice. IMHO, the type of pin has no effect on the hit of the cue. Other than using different materials and/or lengths to change the balance, the pin simply holds the cue together.

Up to now, I've tried to use a few different pins to be able to satisfy those that what a particular type. I think that from now on, I'll stick to the 3/8-10 for any future cues (except for special requests). They're simpler (no insert to install) and you don't have to trust that the ID and OD threads of an insert are absolutely concentric (which sometimes they are not).

Always nice when someone appreciates your work. I like positive comments, but I'm as interested in what people DON"T like about my cues. Those comments sting a little, but you learn from them.

Still nice work. Picky part? Not a big fan of 5/16th x 18 unless it is on a Tad ... then I can live with it ...:D

I AM a big lover of good woods and the woods here don't work as well as some others might have. Not enough difference in color.

I had to come back and look hard but you asked :thumbup:
 
I would have preferred to see the orange wood used for the butt sleeve. I like the butt sleeve and the points to match.
 
Ok you asked. I do not like the black diamond with the red in it. And just from the picture it looks like it was done with a magic marker.

Thanks guys! I always have my regrets on certain choices, but it's interesting to get other's opinions.

Regarding the things that were mentioned:

I'm still experimenting with wood combinations, so the wood I've used may not have been the "top-of-the-line" stuff as far as color and figure. When I find a combination that I'm happy with, I may reproduce the design with higher grade wood. However, I was intentionally going for a more subtle color difference in my choice of wood type.

I've normally (but not always) used the same wood for the butt sleeve that I use in the forearm. As far as using the "point wood" for the butt sleeve, can you point me to some example pics Jim? BTW, the "red" wood is Padauk.

I wasn't happy with the butt sleeve inlays either. It was a lame attempt to mimic the outer black veneer and the inner Padauk point. I wish I hade used Ebony for both....and OMG, they're NOT done with a magic marker:eek: Please don't let that rumor get started. I'd have to quit if I started getting classed with Eddie Wheat:p

classic style cues, or "old style" cues, pretty much all have whatever is used in the points, used in the butt sleeve. I hate to call that "classic" because I think clssic/classy ..... all depends on point of view , always open to be expanded upon, and cue makers who are still building can set their own definition of Classic/classy ..... and do.
 
I think the cue looks pretty good over all... The point work looks decent as has been said the color combo's could be better ... The only thing that really bothers me is that big azz bumper ... Maybe it is the camera or maybe the style you use ... you may want to change I like a bumper but not on that noticable...

Don't worry about the sharpie remarks I have been around of the best sharpie inlayers in Jeff Eason ... And your work is much better ... ;)

The diamond inlays could be improved but you have already addressed that ...overall I think you did good ...
 
i woulda maybe reversed the ring materials (ebony dashes).
don't get the reasoning behind the thicker offset dash rings on either side of the handle in the design.
also would maybe go with lighter materials for butt cap and joint.
plus a bumper with less "junk in the trunk" :)
