I normally use Porpers "Tip Touch" to burnish the walls of tips, especially Le pros and elk master. Hate paying $7.50 for .5 oz. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Savings that make your mouth water.....

I've always found that saliva works fine....and it's free:p

I use high qulity spit (mine) :lol or the Tiger Brown Burnishing as well if the tip is light leather color like a Kamui Medium II.

tip burnishing in a bottle

Yep, I like spit too but admit to using the brown stuff in the bottle on lighter color tips. The downside is that rest of the day you have a brown mark on your index finger. Did you ever notice that the clear stuff smells like piss? I wonder what it really is.

Just seems to me the brown tip burnish actually works better than spit. As if it has a type of sealer in it. Spit just doesnt do it for elk master and le pro tips.

I think it smell rather like cat piss. It is the ammonia that you are smelling. This is just a guess here though and my opinion.

marker

I'v used a furniture touch up marker ...dark color...seems to work well but I do have the Tip Touch also.....Just my 2.....

Amonia used to be used ears ago by leather crafters, I would not be suprised if it had amonia in it.

Got a friend that uses super glue, keeps a nice edge on the tip, I just use spit and leather, sounds like some kind of adult movie.. LOL

I use ammonia, on a folded paper towel. If the smell is bothersome, just place a few drops of lemon oil into it...JER

I use different things on different tips.
Elkmaster and Le pro I use thin set Super Glue and burnish with a dollar bill.
Layered tips I use Tiger burnisher or water with a dollar bill.
Kamui I use a brown sharpie Tiger burnisher or water with dollar bill.
The best wax ever is Renaissance wax that is used on the British royal families furniture. That stuff is the quadruple nutz for shafts and tip burnishing
