Galveston $1,000,000.00 tournament

Papa Red,
Where on the website does it say that the amateur's wives have to pay to get in to watch? Please provide a link or directions to where it says that. I'm think the promoters should be notified and I will be happy to lend a hand if you can tell me where it says that.

FTR, the way I understand it:
Amateur Players who have paid and entry fee for the amateur tournament and their non-playing spouses will be able to watch ALL OF THE AMATEUR MATCHES-FREE OF CHARGE, regardless of how long they last in the tournament.

The amateur players and their non-playing spouses will each need a VIP seating ticket which can be the Daily Pass for the Pro Events for $15 per day or the GOLD VIP seating for the entire tournament for $125 total.

I think I paid $125 to watch the U.S. OPen 9 Ball Championship a couple of years ago.

I'll confirm this information since many of you who want to go to this tournament (especially Gulfport Doc) are concerned. If this information gets confirmed, Doc won't have any excuses for not going. :D

Just don't forget to send me a PM or post in this thread where you saw that information on their website. Thanks!

They do say that the VIP seating at the Pro Event is LIMITED and suggest advanced purchsing of tickets.
JoeyA

JoeyA, I've looked at the web site all morning and can't find where it said this, or the interview with Bobby. Hopefully I did miss what he said. I can understand paying to watch the PRO's play, but not the amateurs.

It was my *dream* not an analogy.

This thread reminds me of a resl life instance that I experienced a few yrs ago.

I had requested a copy of my credit report for a routine check. I discovered that not only did they show me having a past address in a state that I had never even visited but they (experian) showed me having a $100,000 open, revolving account (LOL, not in my lifetime).

At the top of the paper was a telephone number to call if you had any discrepancies. I called the number and followed the prompts to "report inaccurate info on your credit report". I was told to "press 4" at which time I was promptly sent back to the part of the menu that told me to press 4 to report an inacurracy. It was looped and there was no way out of it. There was absolutely no way to reach a human, no matter how many times I called back and tried other prompts to other places. It was beyond frustrating, to say the least.

Much like how this thread is going.

Naysayer - "I have a question about the tournament"

Cheerleader - "go to their website and ask them"

Naysayer - "Someone else had the same question I did and posted it on their website but it hasn't been answered yet, does anyone know the answer?"

Cheerleader - "go to their website and ask them"

Naysayer - "they're not answering certain questions on their website, does anyone here know the answer?"

Cheerleader - "go to their website and ask them"

And so forth and so forth

Non-playing spouses

OK, I called and got this confirmed.

Non-playing Spouses are allowed to watch their husband's matches (or vice versa) free of charge and any other amateur matches providing their other half has paid their entry fee.

Amateur players and their spouses will have to pay either a DAILY fee or a ONE TIME fee for access to the PRO EVENT.

Hope that is clear. For more information you can go to their website and if anyone sees anything to the contrary on the website, please let me know because I couldn't find anything.

VIP seating to the Pro Event is limited, so you might want to buy your tickets in advance.

Now Gulfport Doc can't back out of going. :p

At this point in time, I hope the actual tournament is half as interesting as this thread has been.

I had a dream last night. We were all playing pool in this beautiful very moody garden setting, with plants and flowers all around us. Pretty girls were bringing us drinks and there were buffet tables full of food. Everyone was winning lots of money, so much money that it was raining down from the rafters onto the tables. I grabbed a few hundred off my table alone. I looked around the room, all the pool players were smiling. They were making balls and laughing, joking about how wonderful life was. Many were making plans to move to this pool players utopia.

Then I saw Joey standing by my table watching me shoot. I woke up!

It doesn't have to be a dream. But if you play me some one pocket for the cash, it could be your worst nightmare.

Be careful what you ask for. Some day your wish may come true. I have been known to be careless with my money when I get too flush.

Now if you threw Bank Pool into the mix, you'd have me hooked. A long time ago (2008) we had a thread where we talked about a TAR match-up with one set of each for a modest amount like $500 a set. Somehow that conversation went out the window when you got a line on my Bank game. One can't be too careful these days, even with the Gingerbread Man.

Must be nice to live in a part of the country that has an interest in pool during the summer months and is going to hold a big tourney. At least from my area the only ones that will know about this tourney and that would travel are gonna be the monsters. Most of the regular pool players are not in pool rooms around here much during summer.

I've always known you were a bank pool champion. :D

I also know that you hoped that I would play just the banks and if you win, then you would have a free shot at me playing one pocket which we all know, I don't have to win. ;)The one pocket could go either way but the banks, well, you know you have way the best of it.

I'll just stick to what YOU PROMISED and that is the one pocket. Joy Boy would sure like to take a slice out of GingerBread Man's hide. :poke:

C U @ Galveston.

oooooooooooo, I get it.

As a spokesmodel, you only answer the *softball* questions :-)

When they're a little quicker than that, it's all the "go to their web site you naysayer you" falderal.

Sweet gig.

Well, you left out answering the part about the pro event participators. But I'm assuming that a pro event player and his spouse will both get a pass for the pro events, valid even after elimination.

Although I hate the thought of going over there to Galveston and paying $1500 to play two one-pocket matches, it has occurred to me that it will take the needling services of two full grown men to keep your bloated ego in check. So if Lou goes, count me in.

Doc

My experian experience was back in the early 90's, long before that website. I came across that website awhile back and have saved it "just in case".

The ending of the story is that the following day I was able to find a different phone number where a receptionist answered. She absolutely refused to transfer me to anyone. I'm not a fan of experian.

Back on topic, I too noticed that one of the cheerleaders had no problem calling up the promoter to get one persons question answered while they still refuse to acknowledge others. There is definitely some perculiar actions going on by someone that has no vested interest in this tournament. :scratchhead:

Art,

My ego has always been in check and I really don't have anything to have a big head about. I'm just trying to encourage people to support this tournament.

Full grown men don't play the little games you are attempting to play.

Needling someone on the forum that's trying to help pool. Yeah that's real grown up. You've done yourself real proud.

WAY TO SUPPORT POOL, ART.

I have good luck just hitting 0 multiple times. I'm always as surprised as the person on the other end that I got through :-)

BOT, I also wonder why, as long as he had them on the line and all, Joey didn't seek out the answers to some of the other questions percolating here...

Pretty odd.

maybe not

Yeah, really, Doc. What are you thinking?! (Are we even allowed to do that, Joey?)

Joey, you old pea-picker, don't go and get sensitive on me, now. This is the first time I've given you the needle during this entire Galveston story. However I notice that some others have been giving it to you pretty good.:D

I don't think that there's a pool player alive who doesn't hope that the event is a success. And I have a feeling that it will be. But I also think that, although you initially were most likely simply attempting to show your unflagging support for this event, you've now placed yourself in a position of being it's chief defender-- almost like a spokesman or press secretary. I sense that some folks don't understand what motivates your zeal.

I think it's wonderful that events have big supporters such as yourself. But righteousness doesn't suit you, Joey. You seem to have taken the position that if someone questions the event, or questions you, that means that they're not "supporting pool"!

You're not going to start traveling around with a tambourine and a collection plate, are you?

You're just another misguided Scandinavian lemming that never planned on attending the Galveston Tournament in the first place. :D

That's not true. But it looks to me as though the public sentiment on this event has swung positive. You can explain to me all the inner workings of Galveston over in Mobile this weekend. I assume you'll be attending Mobile, even though there's no possibility of you being able to commentate???

Doc

Hey Joey
I am just trying to get my entry's paid. This take a little pressure off the expenses.
Let me know if you have any ideas,
Thanks Tony

I think you would be far wiser to get the expenses paid andpay your won entry. You would save hundreds!!
