Well, I have been a member since August of 2004 and thought it was time for me to make one of those memorable milestone posts for my 1000th post and my 5-year anniversary on AZ billiards. So, if I may, I’d like to take the next few paragraphs and reflect on my “AZ life” here over the past 5 years and what all has happened.
I was informed about AZ billiards from Tom Ferry back in 2003 or so when all I did was wander around and play pool. Tom (OldHasBeen, RIP) and I were talking at “The Break” in Cahokia, IL once and he asked if I ever had heard of the site. I had not and he suggested it was a good place of information and he thought it would benefit me to join (and thank God I never joined Game Colony like he asked as well). Of course, Tom was a bit larcenist at times and even told me how he was trying to match up games with “idiots” through the site along with recruiting them to gamecolony so he could bust them playing Gin. This of course manifested itself in the Betmore-Oldhasbeen feud, which turned into a friendship, (ask Betmore for more detail, who by the way, turned out not to be the idiot OHB may have thought) and really is what kind of got me sort of glued to AZ in the beginning. I can remember Tom sending me PM’s asking me if I knew who Betmore was as we were from the same state and live only 70 miles apart. But, I had no clue who Betmore was and Tom was convinced he had a fish. 5 years later, Betmore turns out to be one hell of a person and somebody I can call a friend. These are the type of things that happen on AZ.
In 2004 and 2005 I had the chance of going on an extensive road trip with a well-known roadman for an extensive amount of time. It turned out that AZ became a resourceful place for me to post (me because he was and is far from computer literate) inquiring about action and tournaments while on our jaunts. As a matter of fact, my first 3 threads ever were started in 2004 and they all dealt with looking for spots to gamble.
Since those days I’ve settled down, don’t play, and am just a few credit hours short of a degree in Social Studies Education. Along the way, AZ kept me sane in the way I longed to just spend a couple hours a day reading and searching for knowledge through the site all the while staying informed in pool. AZ also was profitable as I sold some things in the wanted/for sale section. I have met many good people here, and some members are close friends whom have known me many years. No matter my involvement physically with pool, I can say I’m looking forward to spending the remainder of my life here in AZ.
