Please don't paint the cue

They say when you get old you get cranky and little things seem to bother you more.

Well, I don't know why but when anyone says they are going to paint a cue it just gives me the creeps. It's like your opening up a can of "off white" and brushing it on the cue covering up all the inlays.

You finish or apply a finish to a cue or cue case and paint a car, house or yacht.

Am I right about this or has old age taken over?

Used to bug me too Jack... but so many cuemakers use the term that I find myself saying it now...

how about "yes, and yes" for the answer .... :D

I say paint myself though, from hearing it so often I guess and everyone knows what it refers to ....

With you there. Funny, I never even heard that "misnomer" until I joined AZ. I still get a momentary brain disconnect every time I hear a cuemaker use the term - and a lot of really great makers do.

I didnt like the term "paint" either when i first heard it in 88, I thought it was terrible, for the reasons Jack mentioned.

however I'm not one to change the world so I just went with it, i tollerate the word.

I asked for one

I asked One of the finest builders when he got to me on his list to build me a PJ and paint it white latex with no logo! I would never sell it. Just for sneaking out! We both laughed.
His first name is Dennis!
Nick :)

As long as you dont start painting cases, we'll all be fine. ;);)

hope your good, great cases in Dougs thread, man you used up half of hunting quota this year in Africa on those cases!!!! I like Shannon's Zebra case too.

take care and I hope all is good with you and your family!!!

eric:smile:

sorry I mispelled your name, but I just cant spell.:embarrassed2::embarrassed2:

Definitely prefer the term "finish" myself........to me, "paint" just sounds redneck. "Paint" also reminds me of a certain someone who use to frequent this board, a banned member who went by the handle 'painpool'.

Yeah it gets under my skin also. Reminds me of a kid with watercolors destroying something.:banghead: I prefer finish or clear.

Painting the Cue

I thought more cuemakers would respond as to why they paint instead of finish a cue.

i call it "spray" or "clear" or cue
paint makes me think of a mcdermott i refinished, that i thought was ebony, was maple painted black
