:thumbup:here are pics......my question is the finish on the cue is not very good...i have never seen a tad with a really fine finish..if i sent it to proficent and had them refinish cue would it decrease the value of the cue? or should i send it to kevin and have him do it? i like a really clean smooth looking finish but i dont want to lower the value of the cue by putting a non tad finish on it..azers what would you do?thanks mickey carroll

Is the Tad brand new? or new to you? or both?

I have two Tad's and the finish on both is fine.

If it is a "Brand New" or new to you, call Tad and discuss the situation and forward pictures and maybe send him the cue for his inspection and then an informed decision can be made on what would be the best path for you to take.

Tad is one of the truly legendary cuemakers and to have someone else refinish the cue would be a crime and you would have to let everyone know the cue was altered(refinsihed) by someone other than TAD if you ever decide to sell it.

Tad is one of the those special cuemakers( legendary) that if someone else does the refinishing the cue will de-value, if anyone says otherwise they don't know what they are talking about.

Typically whenever the cuemaker is alive and still cuemaking that cuemaker should do all of the work on the cue, sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and this is not one of them.

It may be a new "older Tad"
I know His cues are some of the finest built, but ALso that His finish isnt top of the line like others...Schick, Showman, S/west, etc

When the cuemaker is still alive & working on cues, I've never understood why anyone would send their cue to anyone else for work. A Tad refinished by Tad would definitely be worth more than if it was refinished by anyone else. Same with any other custom cue & cuemaker.

That is a great looking TAD cue and it's one of my favorite TAD designs. I like the veneer colors a lot.

On a high end cue like yours i'd send the cue to TAD for a refinish. There are a lot of cue maker/repair men who can refinish the cue and they would be fine for a cheaper cue, but i'd have to have TAD do the work if it was my cue.

Thats an aweome cue"
The joint can be cleaned and polished,
relatively an easy fix"
Just needs to be carefully sanded with really fine wetordry sandpaper,
being spun in a lathe'
make sure to tape over the joint deco ring
 
TAD COULD EASILY REFINISH IT TO LIKE NEW CONDITION INCLUDING THE JOINT.

HIS OLDER CUES HAD A "DULLER" FINISH THAN WHAT WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO TODAY, BUT WERE NICE IN THEIR TIME.

nice cue,

tads finish has awalys sucked, i played with a tad until all the finish chipped off the delron butt cap and flaked off the joint like in the pics above, what ever he used didnt stick to the metal or delron I even have tads where he painted the bumper(i have never used them and the paint on the bumper is still there cracked up) it seemd like he masked off the threads on the pin and sprayed every thing else including the wrap, which does make the wrap nice after about a years worth of daily play, I finally had mine repainted(sorry Jack ;) ) by Jerry Franklin after I started to wear the finish off over the wood, I didnt want the wood to get chalk stains on it. So I had Jerry re-spray the cue and save the wrap.

I have about 9 or 10 Tads and with theexceotion of the 3 real old ones I have the rest have the same yellow thin laquor looking finish, some he masked off the joint others he didnt and it flakes off right away. I could never figure out how come he made such great cues with a dodgey finish.


my advice is if your going to play with the cue, leave it alone. if your going to just keep the cue and not play with it, leave it alone. If you have to have it re-sprayed Have Tad do it. The other guy will probably do a better job but you want a Tad finish on a Tad cue. The ONLY reason I didnt have Tad re-do mine was because I knew I was never selling that cue and I wanted a better looking finish in it because it was my daily player. Thats the only reason to have anyone other than Tad refinish the cue-if you never sell it. Otherwise it will be alot harder to sell. and Selling Tads aint to easy anymore as it is

venner colors is it a rare combo?

i was told by someone that the color of my venners on my tad is a rare color option..they are black,green,red,black,and white does anyone know if this a rare set of colors for tad model 41 cues? thanks mickey carroll
