Anybody marking up their shafts?

I've never marked my shafts, but it's only because usually after time, I can pretty much tell by feel/appearance which of my shafts is my main and my spare. But it's pretty common to mark the inside of the joint area with a felt pen or something similar for those that risk confusing the two.
As far as marking where your pivot point is on your shaft, that's up to you as a personal choice. Although I'm not a 'pivot point' player, I'm of the belief that over time, your body (muscle memory) tells you where your pivot point is, so looking for a certain mark on your shaft while you're in the shooting position is just another un needed distraction.

I am with you Dave, I am not the Pivot kinda guy either!!!!!!;):D

I know several people that mark up their shafts.

They do it when they miss a key shot and give their cue a good rap on the side of the table. Leaves huge nicks/dents in the shaft. I don't think they do it for identification purposed.

Some argue the pivot point might vary with shot speed or tip friction.

It's usually argued that the "effective" pivot point varies with amount of sideways tip offset, butt elevation, shot length & shot speed. Colin Colenso has described (in another thread) how he calculates the effective pivot point for any shot taking these things into account.

Thanks PJ. I missed that one, but I'll look it up.

I'm constantly experimenting with different tips, so I need my shafts labeled. Go to an office supply store and you'll find some Avery computer labels in a clear matte finish. Avery's website will provide printing software free. I use an easily readable font-about 12pt, and trim the label to the size of the lettering. Placed near the joint, label is not visible while down on a shot, but easy to find in your case. Easily removed, also. Just keep the alcohol or cleaner away, or the lettering will smear.
