A great place to look is your local craigslist site. What I would suggest is to set up your budget before you start looking. People will try to sell a GCII in horrid condition for $1500 when it's really worth at most $500, but you will also find people selling a GCII in great condition for $900. A good option would be to start looking around for a qualified table mechanic who you are going to pick to move/setup your table. When you find something you think you might like, have them go with you to inspect it. You can ask around in the Mechanics section of AZB or look at the sticky thread in that forum for mechanics that might be close to your area.

The hard part with used tables is there are so many different variables to take into account to find out if it's a good price, such as:
* Are the rails (rubber) in good condition?
* How is the cloth condition?
* Are there any chips in the slate?
* Are all the parts there?
* Is the slate warped?
* With the older Brunswick's you also have the question of "is it slate or brunstone (brunswick's attempt at a slate alternative, hint, it's reddish colored)
* If it has a ball return, does it actually work?

And there is of course the simple cosmetic variables.

In addition you might decide that you want new cloth and new rails put on no matter what the condition is, in which case you can ignore those parts, but assume about $500 to have that done.

Do a Forum search for this oft posted topic. Try Craigslist. Or AZB's JayH (I'm pretty sure he has some nice GC III's in storage in Vegas and he'll take good care of you)

Where are you located? There should be someone on this site who can help. Gold Crown III or IIII usually sell anywhere from $1200-$2500. Diamond 9 footers are usually around $2500-$3000 used. I know you said you wanted a Brunswick, but many people think Diamonds are the best tables on the market.

In Connecticut, thanks the GC III or GC IIII seems to be in my price range

Oh, one more question to ask the previous owner, has the table ever been shot? :)

(someone posted pictures in the mechanics forum of a table he worked on in which he pulled out a flattened bullet out of the table rail!)

I never would have thought of that i guess as long as the bullet is flat ah it cant hurt to much

Depends what kind of table you want, do you want a piece or funiture, or a competition table? How much are you looking to pay? Brunswick is not your only option, there is also Diamond tables available, but might be a bit more pricey comparing to an older GC.

Some suggested craigslist, which is a very good option. Go to the FS/wanted section here and posted a wanted ad. Go to your local pool halls and ask around (Many over price their "Used" tables) but I would say craigslist is very good source.

Don't forget to checkout eBay. I bought my Brunswick Anniversary on there 3 years ago. My table mechanic and I moved it from Baltimore to Richmond VA and set it up.

I like the idea about deciding what style you want, determine how much you're willing to pay and then start watching.

Good luck!

I would figure in the cost of the cloth in your budget. Normally a LARGE part of the cost of recovering the table is in the time tearing it down and putting it back together. Your mechanic will probably give you a good deal if you go ahead and have him put new cloth on while its already torn apart for moving.

thank fellas some good ideas

id want a good playing table, can all good pool tables be shimmed to make the pockets tighter?

how much should it cost to refelt the table with simmonis cloth any idea?

I was thinking about getting a used gold crown but said F*** It! Im dropping the coin to get the exact table I want. Charcoal Diamond wood diamond proam with tournament blue simonis 860, pro cut pockets. I also got the matching diamond light with the Real King Cobra Install! I tell you this. I will never be disappointed in this table or light and will never want another table to replacement. I spent some major coin but put it on the credit card and paying it off in 6 months. My suggestion get what you want and dont settle. You will always regret it if you settle for less!

Snookers has about 10 up for sale thru D&L billiards in Providence, They're gold crowns 3's that I loved and actually have one. I believe they're selling them for $1,300 or $1,800 installed with $200 more for simonis but don't hold me to it and both Steve (owner of Snookers) and Dave 0owner of D&L) are great people to deal with.
Snookers may open next week with all new GC 4's.
Good Luck with your new room.

I concur! Don't settle!

I bought my Connelly Brunswick 8' a few years back and am now trying to sell it and get the Diamond Table I always wanted. I think I might be open to a great condition GC if I were to be able to get rails similar to Diamonds, simonis 860HR, etc.

Table source

Call Herb Lehman in Torrington CT. He is a great mechanic, a member of the New England Pool Players Hall of Fame, a great guy and does refurbishing, restoration and all kinds of work on CG of any vintage. His number is 757-582-2806. I bought a GCII from him years ago and after he set it up in my SC home it played fantastic for years. Never touched it until I regretably sold it.
