World Cup of Pool

I am busy at work, but have to check the updates every now and then...

I am, as always, betting and hoping for Efren, but a small piece of me want Hohmann and Souquet to win also. I want Team Europe at the Mosconi to be Hohmann, Souquet, Immonen, Feijen and Appleton, and I believe a win in a Matchroom event is needed for Hohmann...

So, no matter who win I won't be too dissapointed, but my paypal-account is definitely cheering for Efren/Django. (Another part of my paypal-account is cheering on a strong European team at the Mosconi, though...) lol

wow

2,000 people in the attendance for this final!!! Filipinos are crazy, huh?

Hey fish! You got sooo many vested interests going on in this match!

Great break by Souquet....two balls down, with three balls crossing the headstring (gotta steer clear of those illegal breaks now)

Germans convene at the side, discussing their options. Hohmann finally goes safe (or was that a push-out?)

They pushed, and the Pinoys decide to shoot at the 3...leaves it wide open for Souquet, though, who promptly sinks the 3. Hohmann now sinks the 4 with authority, and the crowd is quiet as a mouse....open table.....Michaela Tabb keeps reminding the crowd to STF up (apparently they're not quiet enough).....and Souquet puts away the 9. Score is 3-2, still in favor of the Filipinos.

Germans appear to be on a momentum now....

Camera pans through the smiling and cheering crowd and we see how crowded it is....

Germany's turn with an illegal break (this time from Hohmann, another player known for having a strong break. what gives?)

Efren fails to take advantage, though, and turns it over to Souquet, who comes up with his own safety. Django manages to hit the 1 ball, but leaves it open (and near the 9 ball!) for Hohmann. Hohmann tries a double-shot (going for the 9 while doing a safety) but manages only to hide the 1.

Efren then comes up with a magical kick-bank shot to the crowd's appreciation! And Django returns the favor. They're sinking balls at will now, and the Pinoys widen their lead, 4-1.

Efren breaks, sinks 2 balls with one ball crossing the head-string for a legal break.

Nice cueball control gives the Filipinos an easy table which they clear in no time...Pinoys cruising to a 5-2 lead.

Announcers still can't get over the amazing kick-bank shot from the previous rack....

Didn't catch the start of the next rack, but Hohmann fouls, and Efren has ball-in-hand on the 1.

Looks like a practice table now, with all the balls spread out near both side pockets and both upper corner pockets....

BUT Django flubs the 6(!) and leaves it hanging on the pocket!

Souquet takes advantage, leaves Hohmann too close to the 8. He almost misses it like Django, but it finally falls in. Germany wins this one and shortens the Pinoy lead, 5-3

I'll chalk that error up to Efren. He could have given Django an easier shot, but left him a 6 or so foot cut shot, and Django has to kill the CB for the next ball too...

Do you think he should have opted for the 1-9 combo with BIH?

Well, that's what the commentators were saying....

Had it been a less-pressured environment, I think he would have gone for the combination.

You're right, I guess, but I think Django still should have nailed that one easily. Are they TOO relaxed?

Note Efren's miss on the next rack, too.

Now that it's 5-5, the crowd's more subdued....

Germans take the lead for the first time, 6-5. and the crowd appears shell-shocked.

Here comes the German machine-like precision....

and just as I say that, Souquet misses!

Django and Efren seem more serious and business-like this time around...they can't afford any more misses...

and then, Efren misses the 6! Lucky the 6 is in an awkward position beside the side pocket.

Hohmann tries a gutsy reverse bank to the opposite side pocket, and he almost makes it!

Django makes it, but leaves Efren a difficult cut shot. He makes it though, and returns the favor to Django who has to deal with his own difficult cut on the 9.

He makes it, though, and he does a nice shuffle after the 9 sinks. Whatta relief! The Pinoys take a much-needed break to regroup
