Tulip Wood for Joint Collar?

I've got someone that wants a cue with Tulip Wood for a joint collar, will it be strong enough for it or should i think about just trying to use it in ring work?

It will work, and play nicely.

If you're concerned, sleeve a phenolic collar with the tulip. The phenolic will provide the strength, the tulip will provide the beauty. Problem solved.

What dim's to you sleeve to? I might try this with bloodwood.

I have a coker with lacewood collar on the shaft and butt. No problems at all and it plays great. Do not know if the Tulip is strong then the lacewood.

It should be fine, I've used bocote and cocobolo on some of the best hitting cues i've ever made. Just keep an eye on the face of the joint since they tend to be a little more finicky than other joint materials.

Being that the purpose of a joint collar is to prevent the wood from splitting I think that you are correct in sleeving Tulipwood over the phenolic.
