Found this pic somewhere on az. Going to have a cue made with brown phenolic in joint rings and for buttcap. I'm assuming James White used linen based brown phenolic. I know people have this color phenolic but it seems that a lot of it has colored streaks through it. Who has some of this phenolic that is real consistent like in the pic? I would need enough for 2 shafts joint rings and a shorter buttcap like in the pic...hoppe style. Pm me with price and if you have pics please send to r.w.matthias@gmail.com. Thanks in advance. I don't think this phenolic starts out so dark. I have some that will
get considerably darker as time goes by.

Picture is bad but IMHO this stuff looks like some old canvas based pheno that was made years ago and not for cues, just used in them. These were in the days when you actually had to go out in the field to find this material, just not call up Atlas or Prather. And yeah, it turned out real, real brown but because the weave of the canvas was qite coarse, could even been mistaken for some sort of wood. My how times have changed. Instant gratification for all !!!:grin-square:

PS: Still have some in the shop, in some drawer or another. Might even be able to find it if I looked hard enough.

The cue in your picture is mine. I asked Jim to make the cue look "old school", so it could be the old canvas-based material that Dennis references. I'm not sure.

The cue is a year and half old and the buttcap and joint material has darkened somewhat during that time.

To all that have responded. Yes I believe it was the mahogony colored phenolic that a lot of cuemakers were using. Thought I mentioned it in first post but accidently left it out.

Problem with most of the mahogony is that the color is inconsistent. They have dicolored streaks running through it. I noticed in the pic I included that the phenolic is EXTREMELY consistent.

I want to get a hold of some of this material. I don't want to get it from atlas for fear of getting some, sight unseen, and inconsistently colored material. I was wondering if someone on here already had some of high quality/evenly colored material. If somebody on here already has what I am looking for great!!!

Like most others it will get darker with age.

Not quite what I'm looking for but thank you. Guess I just need some really consistent colored mahogany linen phenolic without any streaks.
