I just left Fast Eddies where they are having the Carolina Open-The one pocket was cancelled until tomorrow because there was only about ten people there-they raised the entry to $200 this year and that looks like a mistake-I always play as a filler with no chance of winning, but not for $200-they are lowering the entry to $100 and they told us to call people and let them know, but it might be a little too late-it is a shame because it is always a good time there-

wow thats a horrible turn out. there were only 19 at the warm up tournie putman won. unbeliveable.

This is the first time that I heard about the Carolina Open this year. :frown:

There was no mention of it that I saw. Maybe I missed the tournament announcement this year. They usually have some tournament hype in advance. :sorry:

That is one fine event. There's nothing finer than a tournament in the Carolinas! :)

JAM can speak for me...just what I was gonna say!

Maybe the players who know they don't have a chance aren't willing to put up the entry fee with the economy in such bad shape. I know for sure $200 would stop a lot of players who'd play for $100 just for the chance of matching up against a champion and seeing what they could do. It's not a good sign for pool and the few tournaments that we have to play in.

Every single year before 2009, there seemed to be a lot of forum traffic about the Carolina Open. In fact, I initiated several threads each year about it for sure, along with pictures and tournament reports.

I didn't see anything -- ad, thread, press release -- this year. :frown:

Also, with the state of the economy, unless you live near Goldsboro, which is a BEAUTIFUL part of the country BTW, some players could be saving up their duckettes to go to the Open.

On the one hand, it's great to have so many tournaments to go to, but unless you're wealthy, have a sponsor/employed significant other/stakehorse, most people can't afford to attend two, three, and four tournaments every month. One has to pick and choose their tournaments wisely.

I noticed that Turning Stone is coming up in December this year, and the next month, of course, is the DCC. Lots of great pool events for players if they can afford to go to all of them.
