I was playing a guy the other night giving him considerable weight. The 6, 7 and last 2. I broke and scratched but making his 6 ball. I said it stayed down like any other ball when you play BIH but he didn't see it that way.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and spotted it since I was up a $100 or so.

But I wanted to know from you guys what is the normal practice......or is it negotiated up front???

or is it negotiated up front???

Yea upfront but on a foul by you it should spot I think, and stay down after his foul. --Leonard

Wow, are you that bored.. Giving up that much wait just to gamble.. I think its about time I head that way.. enough talkin about it uh... O yeah when I get there.. I gota have the 6,7 and last two..

down

I think this is the most common way.

while it should be negotiated beforehand, i think that if you give the weight, you should be able to call the shots on whether it comes up or stays down. the way i always play it, is that it stays down, if your opponent is dumb enough to keep racking the balls on the wings, that's his own fault. I don't think handicaps should make things even between two players of different calibers, there's enough bad rolls in pool without having to make things harder. a good handicap should however just bring the lesser player barely into being able to compete, where he will only win if he plays great, not winning by playing mediocre.

Sure you can negotiate it. And if you get the players to agree to it staying down, more power to you. But most guys that have been around very long will just wait for another game.

So if your giving the 7 ball, and its hanging in the hole, the guys you play with would let you shoot it in early (if you were hooked on the lowest ball) in the rack and take their money ball away?

lol! i was refering to not spotting balls when scratching on the break. i've always thought that off the break, if they fluke in, they fluke in.....

didn't mean it

i can understand the unfairness in losing a money ball if someone fouls intentionally, but i don't think it's unfair if you pocket an opponents money ball while scratching off the break.

good players giving big weight have enough issues to fight off. dry breaks with money balls giggling in pockets, fluke hooks leaving combo's, opponent lucking money balls in, the list goes on and on.

i'd sooner have someone robbing me heads up and seeing some good pool (while learning something too), rather than winning with a 6 & 7 with the last two..... woo hoo boy would i feel like i accomplished something there!

The way I have always seen and done it is that if you are giving specific number balls (6,7,8,ect.), they spot back up on your fouls, but not on his fouls. He shouldn't lose a money ball because you fouled.

That is the way we do it around here.. =) In my opinion it is the best way.. =)

There are various local rules for this sort of thing. I really think you need to establish those rules before play begins. Can save a lot of hassle later on.

It is a good move, if you ca get away with it. If you do get away with it, try this one: just shoot one of his money balls in on the first shot if the table isn't runnable. You tell him it is BIH then and you got rid of a money ball.

The game is 'fair', that's why there is a spot. No blitching about 'weight issues'.

And for the last paragraph, you know we are playing for money, right? Cashish, you want it.

From the perspective of the person getting the spot, I say just play the game on the table even and get spotted odds.

Who the hell could get any enjoyment out of being spotted half the damned rack. Why don't ya just flip coins or play go fish.

Yup, what Neil says.

You scratch, you don't get any good from it.
He scratches, he doesn't get any balls resurrected.

Confucious say:
He who not discuss dis up front, sooner or later get it up rear. :shocked2:

ran a lot of handicap tournaments and gave a lot of weight gambling. all money balls should be treated like the nine - if made illegally thet should be spotted. any variation should be negotiated. that is my oppinion as a td and a gambler

I appreciate all the replies and see how all of them play into the game.

It is probably fair though to pull the spot ball up on my foul and to leave it down on his foul....But you can't blame a guy for trying I don't guess...

And Mr. Mitchell.....you get action when ever you want to come over....

And to the ones who would rather play even and watch a good player run out....When there are only so many people around to play with you eventually take the weight or get really tired of losing your money so easily!!

I will play anyone who comes into this little old pool room...How much depends on what I have on me at the time...If I really like the game I can get more...If I don't like the game I will play cheap enough to take a look. I have never had a spot yet here and don't plan on getting one....

Hell I even played Dick Weaver here even...he never came back to give me anymore action...wish he would...he could rob me playing even...but I would sure learn a lot! !!
