Had some questions on if I should replace my tip

Ok so a few months back I got a Meucci cue with the black dot shaft with the stock tip. I've played maybe 100 or so games with it the tip is still in good shape. I've been having some trouble getting spin/english on the ball since I got the cue. I thought it was just me but had a few guys play around with it and they even said it seemed a little off.

So I was looking around wondering if replacing the tip with something of better quality and maybe little softer might be a way to go. I've read great things about the Kamui Black tips. I wanted to pick up one to try out but since I only ever played with a harder tip I was unsure how going to a softer tip would affect my shooting. If anyone could chime in with some opinions I would be very appreciative.

Oddly enough, most higher level players use harder tips. No offense but I would check with one of the A players in your room.

The stock tip on Meucci shafts is a Le Pro (IMO Le Pros suck). I would suggest you get it replaced with med hard laminated tip. There are a number of good quality laminated med hard tips i.e.--Moori III, Talisman, Hercules 2, Sniper etc..

Ask around and see what other players in your area prefer, and see if you can try hitting a few with their cue / tip combinations to get a feel for them.

Also you can do a search here for tips and you'll get all kinds of feedback.

If it's still good, you probably don't need a new tip. You probably just need to reshape it.

The thing is .... if you think you need a new tip, then you won't play well till you get one. :)

OH NO NOT A LE PRO!! Plays like LE GARBAGE lol

correct, get that Le Pro off there and I'd suggest the triangle first, its argueably the best non layerd tip. Only layered tip I ever liked was the moori med, but its always personal preference. Do try the triangle tho, I'd have to say that more people play with them than any other tip.

I have an old Meucci, made in 1991. I like to play with it using a Predator 314-2 shaft and Sniper tip. I bought a Black dot shaft for it on eBay and I actually liked how it played. I took all my cues and shafts, maybe 8 different combinations and tried power draw shots on all of them. The Black Dot shaft with stock tip tied for second after my Predator shaft with Sniper tip. The other second place cue was my Samasara cue which has a Triangle tip from the factory.

The shaft and tip can draw plenty. Ask one of the high rated players there to check out the shape of your tip first and see what happens. If that doesn't work try a Triangle tip or ask for advice from the better locals.
