Mezz Hybred vs. 314

I think I am going to switch to a LD shaft. I have spent some time with a 314 and I like the way it plays for the most part. I'm looking for opinions on the Mezz hybred proII as compared to a 314.

What shaft are you using now? I have the WD700 on my Mezz. I tried the Hybrid Pro II, but I didn't like it very much. If you want to move to a low deflection shaft you should look at an OB-1 or 2.
 
I am playing with an Alex Brick cue with standard shafts. I have tried OB1, although it played well,I didn't like the soft hit and absense of sound.

I agree, i found the OB's to be lacking feedback, or just hit way to soft.
I have both WD700 and HP2 shafts from Mezz. And have had the 314 and 314-2 in the past.

HP2 low deflection, maybe a less than the WD700, very stiff and weights in about 4 1/8 oz. The Taper is more of a european taper I did find the predator taper a little more comfortable.

But the hit is very firm and solid, I know Mika, Alex are using the HP2's but I prefer the WD700, which have similar amounts of deflection to the 314-2. But all the Mezz shaft feel like solid shafts not that hollow feeling that you get in other low deflection shafts.

Do a search and you'll find tons of stuff on the Mezz shafts in past threads, seek out Mcchen, he's also tried allot of low deflection shafts.

any info about the mezz alpha hybrid shaft? its supposed to be in between the wd700 and hp2 i think
 
I switched from a 314 to the Mezz Hybrid Pro II and love it. I think it is more true if that makes any sense. There is no guessing where to aim or guessing what the english is going to do. I found that it is more consistent than the 314. The taper is a little thick on the HPII. I had mine taken down a little bit. It now has less deflection then the WD700 but the taper is thinner. The WD700 has a thinner taper and a little more deflection then the HPII.

The Alpha has the most deflection. It is between a regular shaft and the WD700.

I really suggest trying out all of the options before you buy. There are lots of them out there. I know for sure Mezz can fit just about any joint. I switched to Mezz on my own, before they sponsored me and I'm not paid so please don't think this is a biased opinion.

From what I understand none of the Mezz shafts have as low deflection as a 314-2.
 
I prefer the Mezz shafts over Pred or OB or any other LD shafts. It hits very close to a solid maple shaft as it is made of normal maple with no Splicing. It has the feedback and the sound that I want for a shaft.

From years of testing and changing, this is what I have came up with...

WD700 - Use for SS Jointed or small pin cues (5/16x14, 5/16x18, etc...)
HP2/Alpha - Big Pin cues (Wavy, 3/8x10, Radial, etc...)

I have played with all shafts except the mezz alpha and ob2.

Out of all the shafts the hp2 would have the lowest deflection but it gives very less feedback and sound.But is really consistent.
Z2 would have deflection very close to hp2 but difference in tip diameter.
Number 3 in terms of deflection is 314,314-2,ob1
Number 4 would be WD700 but is very close to 314's,i love the playbilty of this shaft it has the ultimate combination of LD and Feel of regular shaft.Very solid in my opinion.

If you dont mind the no feedback and sound than surely go for HP2,if not try a wd700,i am sure u will like it.

I am personlaly using a Z2 shaft has i like a smaller tip dia.

any suggestions for where we can try the shafts out? i'm itching to try out an alpha shaft but i'm one of those poor pool players that can't afford to try out everything they want to.
 
If you can't make it to somewhere like Vegas during the BCA or Valley Forge to try them out, your best bet is to find someone that has a Mezz cue and ask to try it. Anyone that meets me is welcome to try mine out. Otherwise, there is a Mezz booth at both of the tournament/shows I mentioned. Oh, and there is also a booth at the APA in Vegas.
