Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Let's hope for a Flashback!!! :smile2:

Flashbacks from a guy that is younger than I am and Ron looks like he is younger than I am and probably is. Does that mean I can hope for a flashback too?

Are you guys going up Friday evening?

edit: I was talking about Jamey and "The Fist" being retired, not you Scotty!

I was just giving him grief Bradly. I knew I was too far ahead when he called. 5-1 after the flop, ace comes on the turn making me about 87% to win the hand...6 on the river to give him the straight. I don't sweat the small stuff, just gotta bust his balls for autocalling with a draw....and yes I had plenty of chips to at least think about it. Do you even cash in your own game? I hear yours is pretty easy...No wonder no one from Jason's game likes to go over there, it would be another Smokie's game and isn't worth it lol.

I'm not sure why no one from Jason's game comes to play other than that we play for $50 once a month(and usually have a decent cash game during and after). From what I have heard, at Jason's, they play for less. Maybe our game isn't for the people that play at Jason's. But our game is far from easy. Maybe you should come give it a whirl and see how you do, unless you gotta doggie sit or fold clothes or something......

As for me cashing, hmmm, I think our leader board tells all.....

And for you Jason, "set up a poker game i will play"

We actually play typically for more than you guys just depends on how we do it. $50 is the cheapest basic tournament we run. Or the 20 20 20 rebuy which most people in the past spend 60. The $5 rebuy we did most people put between 50-100 in. Also the straight 100 buy in with 10k chips, but its set up to take 8-10 hours to play, was supposed to be WSOP style.

I've told you before you guys use cheap cards, and dual shuffle and half the people who went to your tournaments then didnt understand blinds, whos turn it was, what was going on multiple mistakes with the cards. Thats irritating to me and not a fun atmosphere to play in.

Ok ill get working on a blind structure and maybe we can hook up a night after league at smokeys ?

when we had 40+ people, I will agree there were some "newbies" and back then(5+years ago?) alot of people didn't understand hold em! You know how many times the deal passed to a new person and they said to the table," 3 card guts, w/ a dummy, loser pays pot", or "jacks or better, trips to win"
As for the mistakes with the cards, whenever you had that many people playing, some times 11 to a table, there's going to be some miss-deals. I had a whole group of 15 of those 40-50 people that we had playing not come back because they were from AA and had trouble being around all the drinking!
The cards we have are used casino blackjack, pai gow cards. Were they plastic poker cards? no. Were they free? yes! Dual shuffling just helps get in more hands.

There were many times I concentrated more on running the tourney than playing. That wasn't as fun for sure.

Our game isn't for everyone and isn't the tightest run ship but we do have fun.But now we are down to about a core 20 people. Never more than 10 to a table and final table of 9. Everyone that comes knows whats going on, knows the blinds, and knows how to play. Is there still miss-deals? yep. Will we be using old casino cards? probably, till someone donates some plastic cards at $15 a deck!

You should try our game again Jason. You might find out you like it and be hooked! Then maybe we could combine and get a few more people. I'd like around 20-30 but not much more than that.

We've also had some inquiries about a $100 tourney. My guess is that I know of 4 or 5 people that would do that.

If we get done w/ league early enough, I don't see a problem doing a "heads-up" tourney after-wards.

Well said kiddo, now if you don't mind an uber aggressive often lucky guy such as myself playing I'd like to come out and play sometime. Maybe even bring some "plastic" cards with me.

I wouldn't mind playing sometime, but I'm one of those annoying players that hasn't played enough to really know what I'm doing. Maybe one day I will get good enough to be a WSOP wannabe like everyone else in this town....... Probably not though, because I'd still be playing for fun, and not to get rich like all of you....lol

I've also said before Brad that i would do a deal where we run a combined league. But everytime i have talked about it noone from your end of it wants to play at my house. Brian has been here a couple times, but that was with Denny.

I would like to run a nice league with a big end of the year(4-6 months?) type payout. Also nice casino cards cost $5 from tama. Sadly the last time i was there i bought a set up and left it in the poker room when i walked out. :(

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be good to win at poker...

I also just play for the fun of it. Although I like playing with Brad -- I learn something every time.

We've seen all types. Your style won't be nothing new to us. And yes, your more than welcome to play.

I don't see a problem playing at your house as long as you have enough room to fit 20 to 30 people if we happen to get that many. Do you have enough chairs/tables? Cuz I moved ours too many times and now we have a place to play every month w/o having the hassle of moving 4 tables and 40+ chairs every month!

As far as a poker league, thats basically what we do but give everyone the option to participate in it. That way people don't feel pressured into playing if they don't have extra money that month or can't get free that night.

Denny, ha! That boy needs locked up for a while....
