up in the DFW Area

We have had an average of 90% humiditiy with a ton of rain the past 2 months, the pool hall owner likes to save afew bucks by leaving the doors open and not running the AC :frown:, the cloth on the tables is valley ultra teflon, and now has about 6-8 inches of stretch.
Question: Would ironing the felt tighten this up, if so is there a certain way of doing this. ie: mist the felt then iron, or just iron without misting.
pushing toward rails or away or does'nt matter.

Thanks guys
Kennan

The only thing about ironing the cloth to shrink it...is if the slate seams have been filled with wax....because it'll melt into the cloth when you do:wink:

Had the same problem with a pool room in Chicago.
Close the door and turn on the a/c. Controlling humidity is the fix.

As an aside, with that much looseness whoever installed the cloth obviously
didn't stretch it very much.

We got between 8 to 12 inches in stretch past the ends and about ten on the sides when installing, about two months later we could pull the cloth till the slate showed through, we will not use that cloth again, had a couple of other instalers have the sane problem with the new Valley ultra tephlon.

Thanks Kennan

FYI Ultra Teflon is not new.
Valley has been putting it on new tables for quite some time.
The 2 main reasons cloth gets loose is humidity or improper stretch/installation so let's not blame the cloth.

I had that problem in a man's out building with Championship Tour Ed. cloth. Dartman nailed it. It's definitely the humidity. I stretched the hell out of it and had to go back 2 times to restretch it. I couldn't believe it but it got loose twice. Free return trips suck too:( Get a dehumidifier

Yeah I wish the owner would spend a little on the building, and aleast run the AC

Thanks all
Kennan

Some pool halls are wiping the cloth on their tables with wet rags. This makes the tables look O.K for a while but loosens the cloth.Cloth+water= loose cloth. I don't know if the Chalk-Off(?)works or not,but I would be interested in some other ways of cleaning cloth besides just vacuum.

Do any of you have experience with the cloth cleaning system used in some of the national tournaments? You know, the one where they plug the product (can't remember the name) and show the inventor cleaning the table between matches? How good is this? Is it practical for a home table?

I can see a problem caused by using "wet" rags.
I've yet to have any problem using a rag that has been completely wrung out.
On the other hand some people swear by chalk-off and quickclean.
To each his own I guess.

Craig did a poolroom in the Monterey area this spring using the same cloth, and had the same results. Stretch it, go to lunch, take it back off and restretch it. Then by the time he finished the last table for the day, the first one was slack again.
He said it took him an extra 3 days or something and he never did beat the humidity with the cloth.
If you stretch it to the point of seeing grey showing through, how much more can you stretch it?

The cloth works great as long as you can climate control it.... it doesn't seem to like not being kept dry.

I've only seen Tour Edition do anything similar once.
In a garage during the rainy season in Northern California, the pockets loosened up a little bit after about a week or so.
One return trip, and never had another problem with it.
But....I've seen alot of tables (especially lately) covered with 860 that were that loose beforehand.
In that case....hacks. No stretch, no drive, no pride.

The problem is the owner not running the AC. That is why I do not go there much. Kennan runs a great tourney if they would run the AC I would be up there more. As a player I don't like hot humid environments and pool equipment does not like it either.

are you saying that this is good cloth, Rick? If I'm not mistaken this is the same as mercury ultra but with teflon and a different name. I install this in a pool hall with AC. I pull it 5 inches from side to side, when i'm finished it will not move, but two weeks later it will. personally I think this is poor choice in cloth for a pool hall. This guy is using cheap cloth and not running the A/C, I seeing a pattern.

Ultra Teflon 4045 is just Ultra 3045 with Teflon.
I'm saying it's the cloth Valley ships on new tables. There's nothing wrong with it for 7' or even 8' tables.
I'll also say I haven't heard a complaint from a home table owner that has used it.
Any cloth is going to be affected by humidity.

Is it cheap? Any napped cloth is cheap compared to a worsted.
