Why do some cuemakers silver rings have a better shine?how do they do it?
I would appreciate advice here or privately on how to do this

Could be the difference between nickel and sterling silver. I think sterling looks better but it costs a LOT more. It's also easier to machine.

The sterling does seem to have more sparkle to it. As for being expensive... It is several times the cost of nickel silver, but even in a cue with lots of silver rings - you're talking less than $100. Nickel silver avg $1.50 ea... Sterling - $3.50 to $7.50.
Kinda like tips... Always see people looking for the "best" price on a high quality tip. The very best tips are dirt cheap when you amortize cost over usage. How many hours do you get out of an $18 - $20 Everest, Kamui, Moori, etc!

Yeah, it is all relative. The cost is not so much when thought of in lines "per cue" costs, it's just that it makes it hard to stomach when you want to maintain an inventory for several cues.
It's a lot easier to buy a bag of rings for $40 as opposed to 4-5 times as much. That and you'll see the nickel on sale much more often.

I probably just need to get past the hobbiest mentality, but I'll still stick to sterling.

Yes they are beautiful...but I hate any metal rings. No matter how much care is taken...more often than not they are a ticking bomb waiting to harm the clearcoat.
Ever seen a SW with metal rings? There is a reason.
