Where are we? Forum profile idea.

It would be cool to have an (optional) location field (ZIP? City/State?) as part of user profiles, so we can tell where people are located.

The member list search function could include this field as a possible search parameter, to allow proximity-based searches on that field. I.e., Search for users within 10 miles, 50 miles, 100 miles, etc.

In addition to simple curiosity about the forum users, it might help for selling cues, tables (especially) and matching up for games, gambling, or even local AZ member gatherings in areas with lots of people.

Just a thought.

Some forum members prefer to keep information such as this private.

Of course, it would be kind of funny to see the multiple-identitied troll(s) adhere to this practice and proceed to have a back-and-forth, i.e., talking to him- or herself.

I made a suggestion similar to this a few years ago. I even added that one could put other info in their sig line, like what cue they like, et cetera. Some people enjoy sharing; others feel it is an invasion of privacy.

I realize there is a location field already, but it is "free-form" and so doesn't lend itself to searching.

No one is going to respond until you fill out your location field. ;)

It's actually a good idea that some might benefit from. Many here are very protective of divulging any personal info on line, but most are ok with basic info like city of residence.

Whether VBulletin software can support this or some other mapping ware would be compatible with V Bulletin, I wouldn't know.

BTW, welcome to the asylum bellingman!

Ha! Good point. My username is a dead giveaway, but I will add it. This would naturally be an optional field.

I like this idea as well. I don't have a problem posting my general location on forums - it helps find other people to play with and talk to about local events and such.

That's what I was thinking. It would be cool to do a location search to find players to play with that lives near your location.
