Table saw shaft tapering machine

I have built several but, like Dick, I don't sell them for liability reasons. Here are a few pictures as well as a tutorial for setting up the machine.

The most critical thing is the distance from the taper bar to the blade must equal the distance from the blade to the pivot point. If not you don't get a true 1:1 final cut ratio (.001 on the taper bar = .0005 per side on the shaft for a .001 size reduction).

Murray, Dick, Chris (Hightower),

You guys should consider selling plans for your designs. This topic comes up from time to time and I am sure you would sell some copies with all the new cue builder questions popping up lately. You could add a disclaimer from liability. It could be a good side source of income, we could all use some of that in this economy!

Cheers,

Jamie

Your not kidding....

thought you might like that , is'nt AZ land fun.....

I haven't even built my first cue yet, and now I wanna know how to build that. I have seen some cool stuff on here, but that is something else. Again, freakin awesome.

Thx.

I have a couple questions. Is there anyway to see a video of these machines in action, and also, is it possible for me to offer to sign a waiver to buy one of these..... I think the one's both Murray and Darrin's machines are superb looking, but I am still can't grasp the concept in my mind.

Saw Machine

I have used a saw machine for many years and have done very well with it, though they are limited IMHO i feel they are very usefull. I have a friend that has made one of the most impressive saw machines i have come across. It has a turret template assembly that allows you to have 4 templates on the the machine at once, and is very quiet. The machine is also very accurate. My friend is a very accomplished machinist and makes a lot of rigs and jigs for me as well. I would reccomend him to anyone who is interested and I can give you contact details as well. He uses the the name Datum Cue on AZ.
For what it is worth

Great thread

Thanks Mike.

That is ridiculous, Joey. Thanks for sharing, but can anyone explain exactly the process of a tapering saw machine. Start to finish, maybe? Any computers involved? Super creative stuff here. I am kinda new to this, thank you.

JoeyInCali ,
Inquiring minds want to know. Who did build that one. Looks like a nice one but I can't read the label. A lurker, custom gunstock maker, wood collector and future cue maker....

Thanks in advance for the info,
Trez

Tom Datum of Deco Cues made that one .
He said he's trying to make some and might be done in a year.

The machine is for tapering shafts. You stick a shaft on it and it runs down the length of the saw blade while the shaft is spinning.

The maker of the Deco Cue saw tapering machine is Datum Cue here on AZ. I'm not sure he'd want me giving out his name, so PM him if you are interested.

From the information I've gathered, he makes just about the most well-put-together machine I've seen thus far. There are others who make machines that look like they do the job, but I like the 'Deco Cue' machine the most out of any I've seen pictures of. This man is an innovator and if you want to see pics of his shop, take a look at his photos.

Thanks,
I like the looks of it. The Bludworth machines are also high on my list. They seem to be very well made from the pictures he sent me and my conversation with Mr Bludworth on the phone have been informative and helpful so far. I appreciate the input.

Have you been speaking with blud lately? If so, I would like to have his contact info please.
