I came to Laos to support the Thai team not expecting there to be any items of interest for AZers until I found out that the Philipines had sent a powerhouse team including Efren Reyes; Francisco Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano, , Dennis Orcullo, and the current women's world ten ball champion Rubilen Amit. I was a bit schocked to see this power house coming to a small regional amateur tournament . The countries involved are Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Camobodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Burma, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei and the Philippines. The SEA games are played every two years and are in the nature of an olympic competition only including many sports particular to South East Asia. Here in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos; its on from Dec 9th though the 18th.
The second surprise I got was that Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamente crashed out in the first round of men's 9 ball doubles. They were defeated by the Thai team 7 to 4. Rubilen Amit was also schocked. She walked into the competiton venue near the end of the match; saw the score and just looked up at the ceiling, held out her hands as if saying "who would have thought it".
In any case, great fun and good matches to come, if there is an interest on the part of AZers I will give some up dates as we go along. As well as 8 ball and 9 ball, doubles and singles, we have snooker, doubles and singles, English Billiards; double and singles and a game called one cushion carom , singles only. Women are only playing in the pool games.
Wish I could report on the out of tournament pool scene but there isn't one. :frown:There is a casino in the hotel being used for the cue sports and a good number of people are spending the evening there.
