When I play in the tournament, and I'm in the money, I have a tendency
to lose my hunger to win. It may sound pretty dumb to some of you, but
that's what happens to me. For some stupid reason, I feel very happy,
that I'm in the money, and this crap prevents me from going all the way.
I guess, I have to work a little harder on my killer instinct. If I accomplish
this task, oh boy, you better watch out, cause I'll go for the kill, and it
will not be pretty.:smash:

Many people have a similar problem, and in most cases it is because they lose their focus thinking about the win or thinking about how they look if they lose, instead of thinking about how to win and staying focused on the table. When your shooting think of nothing else, except how you plan to close out the rack, if you are down on a shot and others things begin cloud your thought's stop and stand-up clear your mind think of your plan and execute.

In most cases the mistakes made are things that are corrected very simply. When we are not focused on the table we begin to miss shots that we would normally make with 90% accuracy or better. It seems that for some reason things are just not working and we can't put our finger on the problem. One of the first mistakes that occurs when your mind is clouded with other thought's is taking our eye's off the object ball. Most players know that a major part of making a shot is staying down on the shot, following through on the shot, and keeping your eye on the object ball until contact with cue ball.

Like I said in a previous post to one of threads keep your mind clear, and play you game on the table, and treat each shot the same no matter how hard or how easy.

Staying in the present

No surprise, Craig's post is spot on. Staying in the present will keep you in tough playing mode. When you start thinking in the future or thinking about what you have already accomplished, the past, you are taking yourself out of the game.

While I might be pleased enough with a lower placing when I am relaxing after a competition during a competition there is only one winner and the rest are losers. This mindset keeps me focused on winning first place. While this seems to conflict with what I said above it really doesn't. My goal is set before the event and stays consistent throughout the event. That doesn't stop me from being in the present during each and every shot, it just keeps me fromfeeling great satisfaction when I am doing well.

When you are satisfied your body dumps a chemical in your brain rewarding you for success. This takes you out of your best competition mode so you are helping defeat yourself when you start celebrating before competition is over.

my biggest fault is being to agressive. many times i go for the out when i should play an easy defense and win on my next shot.

Many people do this, and my advise on this subject is simple. During normal game play when there are multiple balls on the table you must be aggressive, but you also must use aggressive play for a purpose, such as breaking out a problem ball or for changing the tables pattern.

But, I recommend that you base your actions upon you abilities. If the shot is harder that the safety shoot the safety, however, if they are of equal difficulty I always recommend shooting the shot, especially if it is the game ball. This way you give your self a chance to win the game and with a 50/50 proposition in my opinion safety shots are out of the question you always go for the win!!!!!!!!!:)

I think, everything has a fine line. You have to be aggresive, but you can't be too
aggresive. No matter what you do, you have to be in the middle. Too much is the
same as not enough (I hope it makes sense) they both will help you fail.

i do understand when i should and should not be aggressive, i just typically dont listen to myself. im a league shooter, apa 7 and tap league, but i dont play many tournaments anymore. easy to have a go for it mentality in league play at the bar, especially with a few beers down the hatch. lol

smoking .. drinking... a little 420 on the side......

OH!! you mean bad habits in pool...

I have one...

I rush shots....

I take a little less time between each shot...

the more I run..... the faster I run them...

until it hits critical mass ... and I miss

I know I need to slow down and pace myself...

I have the answer... but for some reason I choose not to apply it

I start playing really well....and I get into it ... I try to race to the end..

I lose small parts of preshot routine... I lose alignment... I KNOW about this problem.. I KNOW how to fix it.... I just keep getting carried away

the most insidious problems.... are the ones you already know you have LOL

Not listening to yourself, I love it. Yea buddy, I do it too. That's a good title for my
new thread.

It's like something, I've said in one of my previous posts. We know what to do, but
we end up doing just the opposite. It sucks, doesn't it?

My sleeping routine is all messed up, look, it's 2:35 am, and I'm still up.
I'm starting to feel like a zombie:eek::eek:I wish I could:boring2:

Just another bad habit of mine. I like to hold my pee, till it gets to the
point, that I have to run to the toilet, how dumb is that?:bash:
It always starts the same way, one more ball, one more game, let
me finish the set, and ends up the same way too, running to the bathroom.
Tell me, you never did that.

LMFAO!!!!

Thats a classic!

My biggest fault game-wise is that I play too slowly, and favor safeties too much. This got me into trouble in the past, with players getting pissed off at me because of the snail pace of the game, and getting annoyed at having to come back at the table for yet another hard shot out of a safety when all they wanted is lose, be done with it and start a fresh new game.

Other than that, I chalk way too much, and I chain-smoke :) When I miss a shot, I go in my corner, light one up and chalk the tip of my cue every 30 seconds subconsciously while I'm watching the game. Sometimes If I miss much, I light up 2 or 3 cigarettes in a row without realizing I already have one (or two or three) going already. Bleh, I need to quit...

You and I both, I've done exactly the same thing on more than one occasion. This
is funny shit, isn't it?

I have delusions of how much better I play than I really do.

:frown: Me too.

And, I have a terrible terrible memory. I can't remember stupid crap like the diamond system cueball numbers 5 minutes after I read them... or as easy as where I have to aim when I'm spinning the cueball with extreme. Guess I need a predator too.... So frustrating.
