What percent of posters here shoot on leagues?

I played Busch pool in 88 and 89 (really only about 8 months worth). Got beat in the singles nationals in Orlando by Terry Young (sliced my arm on those dern new tables at the Drake just before the match) and got beat by Mike Bandy at the regionals in Davenport the second go around.

League play in bars was pretty boring then. Don't imagine that has changed much.

League play

I haven't posted much I'm more of a reader, but I play APA. I've played BCA years ago and a local money league "SLAPP" recently. Money league was great but one game per man on a 3 man league, is more of a offensive game. We play APA now because of the match play. But I do miss it. Our team is mostly family and good friends. My husband, son, and nephew are on the team. My husband and I are 6's and we haven't had any problems "matching up". Of course we play all level of players from 3's to 7's. We shoot in tournaments for a more serious competition but, APA is still tough specially when you are spotting several games. Played APA in the late 80's and early 90's on a ladies division went Vegas and St. Louis several times and enjoyed the trips. Hopefully, now that we started APA again we can make championships. With so many more teams and on the open division I'm quite sure it won't easy. We don't have any other leagues in our area or we probably would try them.

The last time I played league it was 1992 and I was recruited by a team with 4 smoking hot girls that played out of little Davids pool room in jacksonville. I never really dated any of them and in the end it was much more hassle than it was worth so I quit.

Fast forward 17 years I really enjoyed the APA run US Amateur National Event and a few of the players were telling me about the National Singles Events for 8 and 9ball league players. So to get qualified for this, I have to play league. Miami actually has no 9ball league, its all 8ball. So I am playing in an 8ball league in miami and for 9ball league I have to drive 25 miles north of my house to play.

The funny thing is that the National Events I wanted to play in had a fall cut off for eligibility so I missed it. So now here I am, playing 8 and 9ball league, all in the hopes that I can qualify for regionals in the late summer of 2010 with the National Tournament I want to go to in May of 2011.

I cant believe I am playing in 2009 for qualifiers that happen in 2010 for a shot at playing in a national event in 2011. This is very strange to be planning this far ahead, AND its APA League too!

I play APA and BCA.

7/8(starting to fluctuate to 9) in APA. I like the idea that there is more of a team aspect to the APA. I enjoy is as more of a fun league, like time hanging out with friends and playing pool. I also like traveling to bars I normally wouldn't go to and playing in different conditions. Some people complain about that, but I think it is a great advantage to be able to play on any table within any type of atmosphere. I didn't like the scoring idea in 9 before I came to realize that it helped teach me how to control a table. Made it to Vegas once in singles and was runner-up 3 other times, not too bad for 5 tries.

BCA I now play at a pool hall. That means I finally get to regularly play on the big tables and play against better players on average. I enjoy the fact that BCA rewards you more for an individual effort, but I don't feel as much of the team dependence since you can throw together just about anyone for a team in the regional/national events.

In APA you have to accept slop in 8ball and take what you make on the break, but in BCA 8-ball breaks don't count and you can scratch if you don't make the 8. Either way, you accept the rules when you join, so I can deal with it.

Underclocked ... Is that Terry Young of Wichita, Ks.? He is a friend of mine, and I went to Vegas with his team in 2001. Terry flies under the radar, but he is a 4 time National Champion. (Singles 3 times, team once). He also owns Rumors Billiards here in Wichita.

I can't believe I'm the first straight pool league player. . .

I shoot on a house straight pool league and a 14and1.com league. I'll be dropping the house league and looking to get on a second 14and1.com league.

Yeah, I like straight pool!

I've played APA in 3 different states. APA has its place in pool but I'm done with it. I moved back to Oklahoma about a year and half ago. Played one session in the local APA. I would consider most of the local APA members friends but I can't stand the sandbagging and out an out cheating. One of the other team captain's is a friend. I watched him one night waive off (literally waiving his hands in the air) one of his team members who was running out.

I play in a BCA 9 ball league on Wed night in Oklahoma City. Good strong league. About 1/3 of the players are pretty strong and can run out from just about anywhere. Another 1/3 of the players roll the 9 very time they get to the table. The only real problem with this league is some of the places we travel to have crappy tables. The place we play out of has eight 7' Diamond tables.

A few of the players in Oklahoma City are trying to start a challenge league. A league may not be the right term here. Basically, everyone in the league has to challenge at least one player once a week. At first its only going to be 8 ball but the idea is to expand to include 9 ball and one pocket.

For years I've been playing in an independant in-house 9-ball money league on Mondays nights. Taking a break away from it right now... just hittin' balls on my home table lately.

JDXPRS,
Im glad somebody feels my pain lol. I wish i had tap or bca nearbye. but unfortanantly the closest one is a hour a way. And as a pool player I barely have enough to feed my self lol let alone 45 miles in gas money 2 ways

thats funny, cause i drive an hour to play apa.

I play in the APA - and have a great time. I play manily with family and friends. I have played TAP and it sucked. too may cheaters and sandbaggers. Our area of the APA does not have that problem. I played BCA for a bit and really did not like the one game format.

if you were used to apa, it probably wasnt that people were cheating or sandbagging in tap, they were just better competition, and perhaps you were rated to high.

tap has a 25 rule, which creates less need for sandbagging.

Rossaroni,, Yes "The Players League" is currently a Pa. exclusive,, However the league co-ordinator Chuck , has collabed recently with BCA to broading horizons, and incentives for 'The Player League' -players..
(bca adds not only notariety, but the option to travel across the states)

The Players League is quickly growing , and currently is the biggest 9-ball league in Pittsburgh .......

I recently tried a LEAGUE one night, and said that was ONE NIGHT TOO MUCH, between the disorganization, loud karaoke, change of locations at last minute, drunks in bars, and pi** poor pool equipment I think I have seen in 4 hours of boredom, and playing 4 games all that leagues offer, I personally want NOTHING TO DO WITH...NOW, or in the NEAR FUTURE!!!!!
