Steve, all your goals are what I need to concentrate on. I also need to get out more & play in some tournaments even if they are 9-ball tournaments.
When I was working I never had week ends off (as normal work days off) in over 28 yrs. So I never played in tournaments. I only played once a week in a BCA league during the week.
As for my game, I need not to get so down on myself and to be really careful working up to that break ball. I also need to work on controlling the cue on the break shot.

If I get in Bob' DCC 14.1 challenge this year, I hope to post a 50.

Lou Figueroa
got a 42
last year

My goal is to play less stupid, which basically means the same as concentrating more, playing better patterns, etc. I'd like to one day be able to boast a triple-digit run, but I usually hit a brick wall when I get into in the 40s or 50s, and mostly it's because it's in my head that I'm about to enter uncharted waters and then I start playing to not make a mistake as opposed to just shooting balls the way I did to get to that point.

I also need to find a place where I can set my 9ft Olhausen back up. It's been sitting in a side room taken apart ever since the divorce and sale of our house.:(

Update: And play more with Dave Daya, who I've already learned so much from!

I saw him play at the World Straight Pool Championship in 2008. Very strong. He went through the round robin part undefeated. I think he had run a 300 something a few weeks earlier. I am sure he played all the greats in years gone by. Sigel, Mizerak, Rempe, Hopkins, Diliberto, and others on the East coast. Nice to be able to pick his brain.

...To break my high run of 133 in 2010

Steve:

My resolution is to break my high run of 133. I'm a working man and don't get to play much regularly, but I hope to change that latter situation. In 2009, I did run a 96 and a 77 (and a bunch of 50s and 60s), but I'm sure I can break that next year. Since playing snooker and re-architecting my stance and foundation to incorporate snooker fundamentals, I'm playing better more consistently, and I look forward to what the year 2010 has in store for me.

Maybe I'll even find a 14and1.com sanctioned league/location near me (Putnam County, NY) and join.

Always looking forward to playing straights, and I welcome matches with anyone (even if my rear end is handed to me -- I always love to watch and learn).

He's told me some stories over a few beers. It's just mind boggling when I think of where he's been, who he's played, and the level that he plays the game at. He told me his hi run is 323, which would probably be the "300-something" you're referring to. He just had a 240-something about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

My moment in the sun was when we were playing once and he broke and I made a length of the table shot from the bottom rail and went on to run 42 (jarred the break shot of rack #4 ), and even though I eventually lost (he ran like 86-and-out), I can actually say that I once led him 42-0!

Good question.

Mine are:

a) to focus on my fundamentals and try to consistently stroke the ball with a straight follow through;

b) to try to identify key ball and break ball earlier in the rack and to take the time to figure out specifically how to get there; and

c) to take my time on easy shots and not take them for granted;

d) to run a 75.

my goals for 2010 are the easiest of them all to achieve: a) get back playing pool b) typing some run, even a tiny one, on video to post here. I can't remember myself playing straight pool in 2009 which made me sad several times. Really, I was hardly playing at all. So, getting back to the table is my major goal. Watching 14.1 instructionals and, okay, let it be producing a run of over 30 at least three times. Or a run of over 20 at least six :o:o:o

Which is exactly why I feel blessed to know and play with Dave.

Ah yes, "the" Dave! I hope his relocation to El Paso went smoothly (or is going smoothly) and that he's settling in well. My thoughts are with him.

You are certainly blessed indeed to know and play with him!

I think he means the Dave to whom he was referring, Dave Daya.

Yes. And if he was moving to El Paso, it would have certainly been news to me.

Winston846:

The "Dave" I was referring to was/is Blackjack (Dave Sapolis), which I think you'll agree is a well-known name in these parts. 'Tis my bad -- I should've looked in the past posts of this thread to look for other posts by you, to make sure which "Dave" you were talking about. :o

Don't know him personally, but I've sure heard of him.

14.1 Resolution

I hope to convert at least one more sparring partner for 14.1. I have plenty of people I can play pool with, but only a couple like straight pool.

teh "dave" (blackjack) you were speaking of, is highly regarded of here in the 14.1 forums.

he has been away for a while, he is going through some tough family situations as of late.

Dave, is a great contributer here and we all miss his presence dearly....

First i ll get my new glasses- then ll try to be healthy enough to start train and give lessons again- having bad problems with a kind of infection *inside* my ellbow- each stroke is like a hit with a needle -_-. I hope that i get early enough healthy to be able to start some training and start at the qualifying tournaments for the state championship and perhaps finally from there to the german championship tournament. I really hope- but the doc already said it might take a very long time *grmbl*. Hurts me that i can t play that much after my long break- and would love to play :p

haven t played now for 2 weeks already-it s killin me ...

hope you guys will all have nice x-mas and a happy new year,
