I have "cue" as one of my saved searches on EBay. This morning I took a look and found only 2 cues out of the first 200 highest priced cues had a bid, a Scruggs and a Harry Harper.

Bad economy or bad marketplace for cues?

Bad marketplace right now-horrible!

I was selling new Buck knives one model with a starting bid of 8.99 that was selling on Amazon for $18. I didnt get a single bid.

Another guy was selling new Schrade knives-made in Ireland- starting bid of 4.99- No bids. Another guy was starting his bids at .99 and i won the auction at $1.30! I didnt think he'd even ship it but he did.

Im holding everything off Ebay until the economy improves and there is more disposable income around.

Even the people wil lotsa $$ are holding back and saving most of what they used to spend. Not to mention, it's Xmas time so everyone is even more tapped out.

PS-anyone want a deal on a Buck Knife-PM me.

Do you have any Case Canoe knives?

people should change their prices to reflect the market price if they want to sell them. It's simple economics.

Most of the BIN's or high starting bids are ridiculous on most anything now on ebay. It clutters the searches too. If people really want to sell something then start it as a true auction with .99 opening bid and no reserve.

Before anyone says, "put your stuff on there as a true auction with no reserve". Well, I do, and it's mostly high end stuff like vintage cards or cars. I find that if someone knows the item is going to sell, then it garners more bids.

No but thanks for asking.
i have the Buck Canoes in both Jiigged Amber and bone white- 2 for $22 delivered. They are very solid. Everyone who bought them liked them for the $$.

They are made in China but Buck sent a whole team over there and they made them great. These are the ones Amazon wants $18 each. Here is what i have if anyone is interested.

Absolutely if you Have to sell but i dont and right now if i did that, I'd be selling knives at 3/4 of my cost at best. They dont go bad so im just saving them for better times.

I agree with you. I just can't stand when people complain about nobody buying their sh*t when they have it ridiculously overpriced. I see it all the time on vintage collectible boards.

I have noticed that the market on all collectables (even the ones selling) is way down and lets face it more than one good cue and your collecting.I have been dealing in the collectables market for years and It will not be as good as it was 5 years ago for a long time. Unfortunatly any one who collected for resale is probably going to loose money right now unless you got your items for a song. Not all the markets are dead but most are on their last breath with little to no profit to be made. That being said there are always things that will be high in their perspective markets...Bushka cues, Perdue decoys, and origional Henry rifles to name a few.

You see it in Real Estate all the time. I had my eye on a complex and this one condo was priced at $230,000. The market was 180 at the time-then the market dipped to about 150 and he dropped to 190. Now after 400 days he is asking 150 and he may finally get 135 or so but if he had just asked the market price when it was 180, he'd be sittin pretty. Dumbass!

and for you youngsters that will be around for the next Boom, when someone tells you. You cant lose on Real Estate "after all they aren't making anymore" Just tellem Bull sh*t. I cant tell ya how many times i heard that during the 2006-7.

I normally do REAL WELL on eBay. This Christmas I sold a few books, a cue & some boots.

Obama has laid off all the Pool players.

Yep, I've seen it often. In down markets it doesn't work. I call it "chasing the market down". In an up market it's just the opposite, "leading the market up", and it does work.

Good luck.

People really are buying less, even when others and I are selling items at very low profit margins. I know what everyone in my industry is making when they sell, and it's not much.

Another thing I have noticed,

There seems to be alot more trading than cash deals on cues, people want new cues for what ever reason and would rather give up something they own than the cash(and they most likely have the cash but wont come off it). There is no $$$ comming into the cue market and some cue makers for no solid reason are making cues that wont sell James White makes great cues but they dont seem to be moving for anyone-he is just one example.

I bought one cue this year and that set of 6 Joss east cues off Ebay, I spent ~$2,500, thats what I can recall, I bought a Barry cue in Nov of 08 I think it was a 5 figure cue-that was the last big cue I bought. but I dont think I bought anything else in 09:confused:. I ordered a 2 cues one monster and one regular.

You cant blame Bill or George. The economy has been getting better and better since the early to mid eighty's. It was bound to happen sooner or later and cues are not the only thing down in this economy. Every market is taking a hit right now...When thing are at their lowest then there is only one way to go and thats up and eventually it will not go up any more and guess what???the bottom drops out once again to start the cycle over. The Dems and Rep's both had a hand in making the economy better which in turn puts them both to blame when things go south....
