Ball Cleaner

I'm in the market for small, inexpensive ball cleaner (I don't wanna make one....yet).

What do you guys recommend? It doesn't have to do all 15 balls at one time. I vaguely recall there was a device on the market that hooked up to a drill and cleaned 3 balls at a time. That would be perfect for me.

Let me know your thoughts on what the best buy is... I wanna pull the trigger as soon as I find the right cleaner.

Thanks,
Dave

I think, if I were you, that I'd probably build one. It's very easy and very inexpensive - less than $40. You'd be more satisfied and it would do a better job. But, I could be wrong so good luck with your quest.

the ballstars do a great job, 8 balls at a time, around $400 - $450 range, well worth it.

Carom Ball Cleaner

I use the Carom Ball Cleaner. Cleans 6 at a time, so I leave the cue ball in for all 3 cycles and run 3 batches. 1 thru 5, 6 thru 10, 11 thru 15. I got it last year for Xmas on sale. I am very satisfied with the machine and very happy with the sellers quick fix for a small part that broke in shipping. No personal interest, just sharing my experience with this product. Specify you want pool ball sized holders for the smaller machine.

My second wife cleaned mine for a while until she got tired of it and ran on with a vacuum cleaner salesman. Man, that sucked. :lmao:

I was just kidding about my second wife. I think it was my third wife.
Anyway, save yourself some big bucks and throw them in the dishwasher. They'll come bright and shiny, and good as new.

That 3 ball cleaner is the mini buffer. I dont think they make it anymore, I only see the replacement pads still for sale. I still have mine, only used it a few times. It does work pretty well btw, but 3 balls at a time? No thanks. I also have the cleaner with the crank. Its better, does all 15 balls too....but still a pain. I could run it with a drill easily enough, but my advice would be to bite the bullet and buy the ballstar.

I looked at the mini-buffer when it first came out. I bought their pads and made my own. Just go to wal-mart and find a similar sized container. Place the soft side of velcro on the inside and it works great. I can do 4 at a time in mine and it only takes my 5 minutes. I might have $20 in mine and that included their pads at the time.

You can buy it here for $195.00
That device looks extremely cheap and third-worldish. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for something that cheesy...

Fastolfe,
I'm guessing the inventor isn't going to reply. Although it's home made it works and none of his customers as far as I know ever complained. In fact it's gotten some very good reviews. You're entitled to yours.
A lot of thought and trials and errors went into designing and building this ball cleaner. If I had a home table I would have bought one. JMHO.
I'm not trying to start a pi$$ing match.

Thanks everyone - gives me something to read up on.

I'm not so sure about the Ballstar. I mean, for a little more I can get a Diamond cleaner -- and I think those are awesome.

I was just curious if I could find something smaller/cheaper that still worked ok.

I like that crank one-- the 15 ball version.

Youre right, the diamond would be an even better choice. Almost twice the price though.

Why the heck would someone pay that much and only get 8 at a time???
My self made bucket cleaner gets all 16 and gets them really good

I'm happy with my homemade ball cleaner/polisher. I've had it for about 3 months now and use it 3-4 times a week. Balls come out like new in 2-3 minutes. I have $45 in it. Johnnyt

Take a look at the ball cleaner made by cue maker Leonard Bludworth. It cleans all 16 balls at one time and it does a great job.

While I designed the first edition, Mr EightBall refined and made the two new editions shown on his web site. If he had a factory and the demand he could probably make them more cheaply. Currently they take a while to make and involve some expense in the construction. The guy who makes them for him has to make a living as well as eveyone else. The construction is substantial and should last a life time or more. Because of its simplicity it will be around for many many years and will be given to someone's grandchildren.

I think that what you pay for one is worth the money if you choose not to make your own. I am not involved with his product in any way.

Currently these types of ball cleaners are all over the world as several people have obtained the plans. In a few places they are in a central location in a pool or snooker hall where players can clean the balls whenever they feel the need.

They may look simple but they are quite powerful and useful. I had no complaints from anyone who bought the cleaner / polisher or the plans. When I made them I had a 30 day money back guarentee, no questions asked. No one took me up on it. One was damaged in shipping. I refunded the buyer's money, repaired the machine and sent it back to the buyer as a gift for his trouble. He graciously sent the money back! I no longer make them because I am retired and do not need the additional income.

BTW I do not think there is anything on the market of comparable construction quality for this price.
