Yes.
Once upon a time the veneers were part of the splice between
the butt section and forearm section of a cue, which were truly
spliced together.
Most 2 piece cues with points today are constructed with an angeled
inlay that gives the appearance of a splice - or CNCd with a sharp
pointed inlay that looks like a spliced point, sort of.
Confused enough yet?
The whole truth is that terms like spliced, lamminated, butterfly,
fullsplice are used rather loosely and often inconsistently with how
they are defined in general woodworking disciplines.
In the spirit of "one picture is worth...", you ought to do a search,
first on AZB forums - then perhaps the WEB, for some links to
cuemakers who illustrate "construction techniques".
