I know a lot of it is technique...not being lazy...chalk before every shot, etc, but what tips do you folks feel like mis-cue less often? Hard--soft--layered--non-layered--brand?

Thanks,
Joe

I prefer hard layered tip. Like that crispy feel when I hit the OB.

Of all the different tips I've tried (LePro, Elk Master, Talisman Medium and Hard, Moori Soft and Medium, Tiger Medium, Sniper and Kamui Black Super Soft) the Kamui Black Super Soft miscues the least for me. Overall the Kamui Black Super Soft is the best tip I've tried by a huge amount.

It's not about the tip...it's all about where the tip makes contact with the cue ball. If you contact the cb more than half way out from the center, it won't matter what kind of tip you have. It's tip placement...not tip type.

....and a glazed tip will not:rolleyes: have an influence.............

For a Hard layered tip the Tiger "Hard" has been performing and holding up very well, in Jacksonville there are now about 20 players that use them. They hit really well, are very consistent, offer good feedback, require minimal maintenance and don't miscue unless your contact point is off the edge of the tip.

The same can be said for Sniper tips, they are great Medium Hard tips and people seem to love them. Personally I like a louder/crisper tip but for those that like quieter tips the Sniper is hard to beat.

I have tried many different tips including all moori and tigers, etc.
.....and I like Triangle tips. No hassles like with layered tips. Lasts longer. Holds shape. Holds chalk well. Hard enough but not rock like.

I feel the tip with the straightest stroke behind it, that doesn't go too far out on the edge of the ball, miscues the least.

You're wasting your time. With this post you're bound to get "Well, I can get further out using such-and-such tip when it's rounded to a dime's radius. I can get more spin on the ball too." type replies.

almost don,t need chalk

Sniper with a dime radius.
But don't declare them at an airport by name- you're going DOWN.

I understand that, to a point, but every pool player I know (pro or amateur) has miscued at times.

All those things being the same, what type of tip would have the least liklihood to miscue. As one poster pointed out, when a tip is glazed over, odds are that a miscue is forthcoming.

silk duds are better IMOP, plus the last time i tried the tips you mentioned my cue started b*tching and would not move the rock for anything....It shot fine for three weeks and then SSDD...not to mention I had to switch to Ivory ferrules to keep the red stain off my cue.

Silk Duds they do a CB good,

P.S.- There is no such thing as soy milk. Its soy juice. When you show me a soy titty then I can show you soy milk.

I can't remember the last time I did anything to one of my tips other than put chalk on it. But I chalk before every shot...part of my pre-shot routine. If I miscue, it's because of something I did wrong...I can't blame the tip.

you know steve I'm with you on that. I see players constantly Tip picking their tip. I don't even own anything like that. I find that the more fuzzies i have on the tip the more prone to miscueing I'm going to be. I like the tip smooth. When it does get too glazed i just pass a little sandpaper to take the hard glaze off, and then put the tip in my palm and twist is to take any fuzz off it.

Hope you follow what i'm trying to say. But regardless the incessant picking at the tip is BS i never understood it. I might screw with my tip once every few months. When its where I want it I don't F*k with it. The only thing I'm going to do to my tip is take the mushroom out, but i usually press mine b/f hand so its not barely ever an issue. The only time I'll really do anything to the tip playing surface is when i have a really big miscue and It damages the tip shoulder really bad, as I like keeping a square shoulder on it. But again this happens only rarely, especially since i don't get more than a tip off center ball 99% of the time (not guessing its a fact...no point when the tip is 11mm)

I think it just gives players an excuse to play like crap....Oh gotta get my tip pick I'm miscueing....must be the tip lol

quit picking,
Grey Ghost
