Billiards on Broadway in downtown Columbia will be hosting a 10-ball ring game tournament on Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00PM, and also on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month beginning in February. This will be a progressive-ante ring game tournament with a $20 buy-in and a 100% payout. Starting chips will be distributed based on player handicap: "A" players will begin with 11 chips, "B" players with 13 chips, and "C" players with 15 chips. Play will begin with a maximum of 5 players per table, and an ante of 1 chip per game. The ante will progress to 2 chips/game after one hour and will double each half-hour afterward. Payouts will vary from 2 to 5 places based on field size, with 5th place receiving at least their buy-in $ back on any field of 15 or more players.

We had a small (8 player) trial run last Tuesday that included Don Crump, Bill Young, Ivan Sweezer and Troy Kirkendall, and everyone said they enjoyed the format and were looking forward to future events, so we are hopeful and optimistic that this will become a popular tournament.

I have additional information (flyer, rules, payout schedule, etc.) that I would be happy to email anyone who is interested, especially those who would like to help us out by posting a flyer in their local room.

Thanks,
Aaron

p.s. Thanks especially to mikeyfrost, who helped us get started with this great concept and a solid set of rules.

Keep it going Aaron, bump for players to show up...who knows one of these days I'll bring a crew on down to play!

Have any info on the results?

See if it is worth the drive from St Louis

At this point I only have 10-15 players who say they will be playing on a regular basis, so it's not quite big enough yet to justify coming in from STL, but we'd obviously love to have you at the Feb. 9th event if you want to make the drive. Last night's event was very small, which we kind of expected since it didn't fit the schedule of 2nd or 4th Tuesday, and I also had 5 people cancel due to schedule conflicts.

I think it's safe to say that we will be seeing at least 10-15 players for the Feb. events, however, and I think that's a fairly conservative estimate. You should know that I am spreading the money around pretty well, though, so if I get 20 players I will pay all the way to 5th place ($145, $110, $70, $45, $30), which may not be enough $$ to entice you to make the drive. I know some will complain that 1st doesn't pay enough, but I just didn't want to load up the prize money in the first 2 or 3 places in this type of tourney. It is a ring game, after all, and a guy could potentially lose a bunch of chips before getting a real shot.

I got lucky and snapped off the first two events, so what will most likely happen is that we'll get 20-25 players for the next event and I won't make a money ball all night, LOL.

Thanks man, I plan on it. Bring 'em on down. I'll buy the beer (until they drink me broke, anyway). ;)

Pay down 5 places

Do not mind paying down 5 places with a couple places over 100, but with more players will you keep the payout at 1/4 of the field and increase the payouts?

Is there a player auction or just an entry fee?

Tuesday, 2nd and 4th right?

At this point I'm planning on paying a maximum of 5 places regardless of how big the field is. Five places is easy, because you can just say that everyone who makes it to the final table cashes. If we start seeing fields of 30+ players, which is unlikely I think, then I will have to change to 6 players per table, and would then pay out to 6th place.

Yes, we would be willing to do an auction if there is enough interest.

Yep, 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Next one is Feb. 9th.
