Pool Halls in Washington DC

Sorry...I did mean in Fast Eddie's in Springfield.

I live right near Fast Eddie's on Route 1 but never go there. It was good a few years ago..used to have a good Friday night tournament.

Good stuff Mapman. Eddie's in Springfield has a buy 8 bucks worth of food and play free pool until 5. On Sundays at 5 you can pay 5 more bucks and play pool the rest of the night.

I go there for Leauge on Monday nights but if not a Monday i ty to get in there thrusday's around 4 or so. You know.. Before it turns into Mexico City and the club nights. One Sunday i was in there around 10 or so and there where about 400 heads... No good for pool thats for sure..

You could always call me for a game. Im a pretty solid "A" player and im always up for a good game. PM me with your number and ill give you a shout

Hi JJ. Have you ever played out at Eddie's in Springfield?

No but i might... Its it a decent place?? Would probably play their if the conditions are good. Its not that far away from Alexandria. I mean hell.. We drive up to Orange Ball to play so Springfield would be a quick ride..

PM coming your way ;)

One last thing - just an observation.. It looks like almost all of the establishments mentioned have regulation tables. You would be surprised coming out to Denver as half of the pool halls I've been to here are regulation and half are bar box. Most of the in-house and traveling leagues (BCA, ACS, and..gulp..APA) on the south side of the metro area are played on bar box tables. Looks like I'll have to bring my glasses with me!

As for barboxes, there are a number of places that have a table or two in DC proper up for challenges. They are usually in poor condition and the people you play will be very drunk. But it does make for a really fun night, especially when you try to stay on the table. My dad grew up in Baltimore and told me that he would go into the neighborhood bar on a Friday night and try to play all night on the same quarter, and a couple times he was able to do it. So when I started playing better than him, I figured that I could do it too. I've yet to last more than an hour or so.

Anyway, depending on where your hotel is, there are two spots where I've have a good time challenging folks on a barbox in DC. The first is Lucky Bar, in about the 1200 blk of Connecticut Avenue NW, Farragut North Metro Stop (Red Line). Fun place. The other is a sports bar at the Grand Hyatt. It's called Grand Slam and is at 10th and H Streets, NW, Gallery Place Metro Stop (Red/Green/Yellow Lines). They have a couple bar boxes in there. Keep in mind that in DC, we're not talking quarters a game, but dollars a game. So play well :) A couple times at Gland Slam I wanted to keep playing but nobody would challenge the table because they had already put $15 in it, so I would offer to pay for a game to keep them playing. It's a weird hustle, since you don't make any money, but you keep getting played .

Ask Cory in DC about the bars in Capitol Hill. He used to play in a league over there and I believe they may have several places with one or two tables that might keep you occupied. Take care and have a great visit.

JJ, you seem like a good player. You want to get together for some cheap sets this week? I live in Alexandria. I'm trying to practice a lot before my knee surgery on Friday so that I don't lose too much when I'm laid up.

Maybe... I get paid next Friday so if you want to get together and play a bit i wouldnt mind.. Probably go to Springfield though. Im tired of the Eddie's on US 1. Nothing but a bunch of bangers in there

I'm having knee surgery Friday. We can play in a couple weeks if you want. We'll get together and play some and if spots are needed, we can adjust. I'm not trying to get rich, just have some competition for a little $ for incentive. I'll get in touch with you in a couple weeks.

Hey Joey is that you?

Every time I travel around the country on vacation, I'm always looking for a chance to check out the local pool hall and maybe get a game with one of the top shooters in the place. No gambling, just a solid match with a good shooter. The problem is, checking out the internet just gives a list of pool halls in the area and most of the review are talking about the quality of the food or whether there are any good looking women. Both can be important, but I know what I'm after: serious pool players, AA, AAA types who know their way around a table. Character is always important too, and good people who are not out to hustle or knife you. If anyone knows of a website that provides that (or can give me some insight into pool halls around the downtown area of Washington DC), I would be grateful. I did search on this site but kept getting hits for Washington state. The two places I did find were Buffalo Billiards or Fast Eddies (I'm staying downtown). Hey it could be just a bar box in the back of a bar where shooters are known to congregate. Thanks![/QUOTE

i was in dc about two year ago and stop buy a place on the corner of 7th and T...they had 6 tables but only played on four..all the games that are played there were one hole..betting hi and i talking extremely high per game on each, shooting dice for a buck a roll and the best southern food that a man can every eat on another..it was a unbelievable experience for me...very nice and great people, no trouble at all...

This thread sucks... LOL

I am over here on the Eastern Shore with nothing to do and know action.. I am jelous Joey... We have two pool rooms. One that has not even so much as a mouse walking around, and the other has 1000 Salisbury College kids that you have to wait 3 hours just to get a table..... I am glad to have my own table to at least hit some balls.. But, it is awsome to be able to play that hight level of competion to stay sharp.. No wonder you dont miss.

Are you sure that was 2 years ago and not 12?

I've worked near Grand Slam for about 6 years and never knew that was there until now. I'll have to check it out some time.

As for Capitol Hill, there's nothing left there to speak of since Zack's closed. The league is slowly dying out and the local shooters wandering off...

Thanks Mapman

Good to know. Again, I appreciate your time in responding. I may head up to the Grand Slam and check it out. Best of luck on the knee surgery. Hope you're back on the tables soon.
