Hi All,

I have a friend who has a successful billiard retail / repair store. We are looking into machines that can engrave initials or even names into pool cues and maybe into cue balls and possible other merchandise. We would perfer Laser over sandblasting. Does anyone have any thoughts, or ideas where I could possible locate such equiptment? Thanks.

Have a look at a Gravograph. I have used a IS400 and is OK but expensive..
It's not laser, not sandblasting but a mini CNC machine with diamond tools.

The local trophy shop uses one. Its a laser I believe. A girl we play against had her name etched on her cue. Barney Google is your friend. Do a search for trophy engravers or contact a trophy supply for a start.
Wow, purdy espensive tho, I just did a search. Going to have to do alot of engraving to make your $$$$ back.

I understand what you are saying but what are you really trying to do? Engraving for the most part on pool cues and other items can look pretty horrible. You don't want a pool cue to look like a bowling trophy. You can use water transfers and compose what you want on the computer and then print it on the transfer, this is mindlessly easy and looks great. To engrave a cue ball requires you to engrave around the radius and this is very challenging on most machines other the CNC. Another idea that works very well it Letroset rub off lettering. It is also very easy and you can do lettering that even looks like gold leaf. I doubt you are looking to spend a thousand or more just to monogram of personalize a few items. Just some food for thought that works. I didn't look very hard but I found this to give you an idea what I am talking about.

engraving

Would like to spend under $2000. I was in Vages last fall and saw a guy sanblasting names into pool cue's. His set up didnt look very expensive. A lot of it was homemade. Cues turned out pretty nice. I think there could be a small need in my area. After thinking about it for a while, I expanded the thought to cue balls. Everyone in my area especially league players are always losing their Balls. (lol, lol) I figuer I could sell a ball, another $8.00 for engraving and eventually recoop my money over time. Long term investment!

Definitely not a bad idea if you're in an area with a market for it.
Where I live most players have a Moori lifestyle and an Elk Master budget.

new hermes

the new is not new its just the company name. i have a used engraving machine that was used in jewelry stores for engraving things like i.d. bracelets. most of these were replaced by lazer machines. it is a pantagraph style using a small motor that rotates a diamond cutting tip. included is one set of fonts. to use this machine for pool cues i believe you will need to build some type of holding vice for the cues.

$250.00 + delivery.

good thread...what machines have production cue stores for engraver names? Mcdermott or Viking are a example. Laser machines?

Hi, I don't know if these people will sell you the equipment but they can probably direct you to someone who can. They specialize in engraving and they engrave all manner of items: crystal awards engraving. Hope this helps: http://www.ablepromotional.com

Why even consider owning the machine?
Have the trophy shop do your engraving for you.
That's what they are in business for, to provide this service.

I wanted a lazer engraver to engrave names on pens and cues.
$10,000 was the low end stuff.
I figured it out and would not live long enough to recoup the cost.

CNC can do a good job of engraving but it is time consuming getting a G-Code prepared for a set of initials you will most likely never use again.
