First off, this poll will be strictly confidential. No one will be able to see how you voted.
You will only be able to choose one of the items so please choose carefully.

It should be interesting to see how AZBers view their addction to pool and who knows maybe a little fun in the process.

The higher the number, the greater the addiction. Just pick a number that you think rates your propensity toward playing pool.
You're only allowed to pick one number which rates your addiction.

You can throw in a few statements about your personal addiction if you like but I am mostly interested how you rate your addiction to pool.

I wrote up a whole list of statements about pool addiction that could fit just about anyone and then I erased them. I'll put in my own addiction statement and hope that you will dare to write yours.

Let me hear something in your own words.

Here's mine:

Pool has been a life-long addiction for me. It's occupied a great deal of my spare time. Yes, pool has caused some problems between my wife and I but somehow we have managed to stay together in spite of the problems it has caused us. I think I have balanced my pool playing with the responsibility of raising a family. Luckily for them and me, I haven't depended upon my winnings to support my family. My only regret about pool is that I wished my wife liked it half as much as I do. It's been a part of my life since I was 17 and will probably be a part of my life the day I die.

I think I'm pretty much like most AZer's with only a mild addiction to the cue sports. My real addiction, however, however, however, is redundancy. I can't, can't, can't, seem to help myself, myself, myself, myself. :wink:

I've got it pretty bad but don't let it consume me.. My priorities are in line and pool takes a back seat to the important things like family, faith, friends, work etc.. I do however consider myself to be a lifelong student of the game and look forward to every opportunity to practice or compete..

I get a lot of joy from the game, that's for sure.
 
I have a severe addiction to pool. I always enjoyed playing even if I'm not playing well. I would have chosen 10, but I would not give up my family for pool. It's just under that level though. I really do love pool, and it is part of who I am. Pool is in my DNA.

One of my best friends was there about 10 years ago in Storage and Handling.

Anyway, I was way more addicted before. I still love the game and play any chance I get but priorities change as I get older and it's just not at the top anymore.
 
A while back I had a few extra bucks, but thanks to you guys no more. :rolleyes: The first thing in the morning turn on AZ. Please guys hold back a little. There a just to many good looking cues, an great prices on most. Kid in a candy store, I just need more of an allowance. Your friend in Louisville, Ky. Skip :smile:
 
Over the past 60 years pool has been 0 to 10 for me. From not playing at all for 5 years twice to 12+ hours a day when I had my own room. Now I follow it just as much as the 4 hours on average a day that I play it. Johnnyt

But there are 3 things in life I am addicted to; My wife , my dogs, and pool.
(depending on how much shlt I have to put up with or how much shlt I have to pickup determines the order of preference.) I get on AZ about 3:00AM and start shooting about 11:30 until 4:30 pm. then home to get on AZ
again. Hello, my name is 12310bch and I'm a poolaholic.:smash: It keeps me off of bourbon and out of whorehouses.
 
I think the truely addicted give up everything for pool. They know they are going to be broke most of the time and always will have to rely on others, but they do it because they really have no choice. The game got them bad.

I consider myself a functioning pooloholic, so about a 7 out of 10. I revolve my life and friends around pool, but I manage to raise a family, own a home and be a great dad. However, I never stop thinking about the next time I am going to hit balls. I also have a soft spot for anybody who really gave up everything for pool and I usually help them out if I can. Some of the smartest and most creative people I know are lifelong poolplayers. I always wondered how successful they would have been in life if they didn't get addicted to this great game.
 
Yes, but as a self- reported addiction, I think you should just automatically add five "..." 's to whatever anyone says.

No one is ever going to admit how bad it is- even to themselves. An addict will never say, "Oh, yeah, I'd give up my x, y, and z for this," he will insist he can quit any time. Then when challenged with an ultimatum, he will scream, "You're trying to control me! Not an acceptable relationship! Aaaagh!!!" and run.
 
I'd much rather play 6-8 hours a day every day than 4-5 hours a week....anytime.
 
I am an addict for sure.
I practice or play daily. I order most PPV from TAR or US Open or Mosconi CUp etc... I have baught in excess of 40 teaching videos, and 20 books. I subscribe to magazines like Inside Pool. I am on AZ daily. I take lessons from top coaches. I travel for pool and always buy VIP seats, been as a spectator to US open many times, Derby City Classic, Valley FOrge, Reno, Las Vegas and one day when the kids are older i would love to catch some world championships in Manila or other. I read pool stories like:Playing of the rail. I buy expensive cues from reputable cue makers. I play league. I PVR everything that comes on TV, and since i am not a top flight pool player i can see myself as a backer or who knows promoter later on.
 
If you had asked me this 12 years ago Joey, I could not have answered with anything but a 9 or 10. But after joining the military and having to fit pool around my Army life, the addiction has 'waned' a bit and is now more of a love of the game. Of course I'll go through periodswhere the flame of obsession burns very bright, but for the most part, it is kept in reasonable check. Let's see me say this after I get my own table and can play whenever I like...might go back up to 8/9.
 
I have a really bad habit if picking up a piece of chalk and putting it into my pocket... ( I know... I hate me too)

I am reminded almost every day how bad this habit is... there were at least 10 pieces of chalk on my night stand. I usually empty my pockets before I go to bed at night and put loose change and chalk on the night stand.

As addicted as I am, I know I will fill my pockets and take them back to the pool hall later. There are also clumps of chalk in my cars dash board trinket holder, cup holder and in the arm rest carrier.

I admit it, I have a problem.. but I do return the chalk..... eventually. :frown:
 
Just something to pass the time...

I know who all the top players in the World are...
I know all the tournament results for all the big events world wide..
I have studied countless pro players a million times to learn from...
I have driven many hours and miles just to watch a world class player for 1 hour...
I have played and studied the game for near 30 years...
I play in all the toughest leagues and tournaments I can...
I only have countless books, magazines, tapes, dvd's, notes, all over my home...
I have a Gold Crown table in my livingroom and it fits perfect...(why I bought the house..)

I guess I seem to like pool sort of but I am sure I could quit at any time...
I really don't need it, It just helps me get thru the day.....

confession

I actually did quit once- for a whole six years.

I got a degree, had a 3 year non- pool- related romantic relationship, got my career jump started... And as soon as I was all set and paying bills regularly, I went right back into the poolroom.

It's almost as if I quit pool just so I could get to where I could support the pool habit again.

...But yeah, I could quit at any time, I'm sure. Just don't test me on that.

A large percentage of the polled players admit to having the addiction in varying degrees with a lot of us in the upper range.
