Quarter sawn sugar maple

I think SugarMaple is complaining about a problem I have also. If I log in to AZ and send a message, often times instead of posting the message, I am asked to log in again (to AZ) and my message disappears. What's up with this? It has happened to others also.

It hasn't happened to me. Are you using AOL as your web browser? I've heard of this happening on another forum, when using AOL's browser. If you use just IE, it usually goes away.

Dave- Thanks for the feedback. I have a fast At&t connection and use the Safari browser on a Mac laptop, but I've had this problem for years. I don't know how many others have this trouble besides Sugarmaple an I, but Max Eberly complained in passing about it in the main forum several months ago. I don't think it's a problem on my end but what do I know. It's happened many times.

The only thing IE is good for is downloading Firefox...I've never had any of the problems that are being referred to...ever...

It happens alot over at the JA forum, there have been a lot of complaints about it by people there. I don't know if it's due to security software, or the browser, etc. I have IE 7, and use AVG PRO, and haven't had this happen at all, guess I'm just lucky. One suggestion would be to try firefox, or modzilla, but first I would do a disk cleanup thru system tools, maybe even try that first. It maybe a windows based issue, but on the server's side verses end user side.
Maybe a posting in the main forum will get some help from a computer guru that may know the answer.
Dave

i agree that ie is pretty bad,i have recently switched to Chrome after a suggestion by my 8 year old son and it is way better than Firefox.

on another note the $35 for a square maple shaft should weed out some people.

cost

What is the $35 price tag based on?

9yrs old.....quarter sawn.....30-40gpi.........dead straight grain...........how much do you pay for wood like this?????I am totally new to the shaftwood business, I'm curious of course , what people pay for what.............the only place i have seen , it was 39.95..........and the guy said nobody else has this wood kinda wood for sale

seeing in person is the only way to go at this point for that kind of price, JMO.

Dave (bought to much sight unseen boo-boo's already in life)

I've been making cues for a long time. I have never seen a 1" dowel with 40 grain lines to the inch. Further more, if this guy thinks he can sell this AIR DRIED wood, at these prices, UNSEEN & UNKNOWN, he is fooling himself. This is a pipe dream. Don't waist your time or money, when there is good wood out there, without being raped at these prices for wood from an unknown source...JER

Let's see if there's any room for common sense here.

You state that you're new to the shaft wood business yet right out of the box you are asking premium price. 1st red flag.

You state that the guy at the only place you've found anything like it, says "nobody else has this wood kinda wood for sale"(quoting your words). Yet you apparently have the same thing.......hmmmm. Let me guess; it was Joe Barringer. 2nd red flag.

Exaggerated price & no pics to boot; what's wrong with this picture(or lack there of?) Do I need to say '3rd red flag'?

You should probably try to understand that there is plenty of quality shaft wood to be had from many different suppliers at about 1/2 the price you're suggesting. Most are also offering their wood in dowel form. Most of these reputable suppliers will give you a full refund if not satisfied. Are you prepared to do the same?

You have 4 posts. no iTrader, & no pics either. Maybe not your best approach.
Good Luck though.

I have Cox and also use a Macbook. I used Safari for a while and never had a problem with anything. I now use Google Chrome and it is worth checking out. I also used Firefox on the Mac and it was good too, but Chrome is better for Mac. You can use the same controls as safari, but it does more than both safari and firefox.

They're all good. As long as it ain't Windows-made.......

Also, I would also like to see pictures and follow through from this seller, as I don't get into this grain line BS. I want to see other qualities from a seller, if you know what I mean!

Dont' know about you guys, but this thread smells a little funny.....

Lets see....1x1x30=30/144=.20833333333333
Acer sachrum..AKA... sugar maple is not worth $175 bdft no matter what it is being used for and no matter what it's condition and/or characteristics.

If I paid $15-20 a piece for a sticks of this nature I'd be paying 2 to 3 times what I'm paying now for high grade premium shaft wood.

the only place i have seen , it was 39.95..........and the guy said nobody else has this wood kinda wood for sale

Was the guys name by chance..Kevin Trudeau?

Certain pieces and/or species of wood command a premium price in our trade. I'm sorry but I don't feel acer sachrum is one of them. If there was only one state it grew in and only one person milling it, that story would be subject to change.
