Tim Scruggs Cues

So I wanted to pose a question to everyone... Do you see the value of Tim Scruggs cues skyrocketing in the near future?

I know a lot of the guys in the area are trying to snatch up everything they can (I already have a monster that's over 20 years old). With M. Cochran passing and the other big names that used to work for him not making TS stuff anymore, on top of the fact that Tim is dealing with family issues means that he isn't producing much right now.... and maybe not in the future either. When a BIG name cue maker stops producing... typically value goes up.

So, I was wondering what everyone thought about the value and collectability of what is out there right now.

I know if Tony at Black Boar were to quit, his stuff would be impossible to get. So, what do you think will happen to the Scruggs market?

They are only going to increase in value. I kick myself everyday for selling my one of a kind Scruggs 20 years ago.
 
Yeah, I see guys around here shelling out $700-$800 for a simple house cue conversion/sneaky pete. I think it's a little crazy but whatever the market supports seems to be fair value when it comes to pool cues.
 
As we discussed last week, I would hold your cards Greg. That TS that you have been toting around is very sweet, indeed, and you tend to play a great game when when it's in your DB's.

Kinda reminds me of a BB I once owned...

No, I dont see them increasing significantly in value. Tim made lots of cues. As in most things, his success, (building alot of cues) is a reason why his cues are not rare.

For those giving you advice that they will siginficantly increase in value, :rolleyes:, let them make a nice offer on them.

Oh it isn't going anywhere! it's one of the most unique Scruggs I've ever seen and I'm not going to part with it unless someone ponies up a 6-point BB that's off the charts.

let me tell you what though.... I've been digging that Phillippi lately. Best I've ever laid hands on and that's saying something!

Its more than the market, TS sneakys are some of the best playing cues out there. I have hit with high-end cues worth 2-5k, and I have yet to find one that plays as good as my purple heart TS sneaky. Thats just my opinion though.

I will! lol! If I ever get over that way, maybe Ill tag along with cubswin and meet you. Or you could tag along with cubswin when he comes to Kokomo. Just dont get roped into that dice game, lol!

Kinda hard to get away with 4 kids and a wife!! I will have you and cubswin over one of these nites for a nice ring game of 9-ball.

I bought a TS from Scott Murphy once. It was gorgeous in its simplicity. I wish I had a picture. It was wrapless, with caramel colored snakewood where the wrap would be, 3 rings on each end of the "wrap", with an ebony forearm and butt with 3 more rings down there. The ebony had a lot of brown in it, so that it complemented the snakewood. Ivory ferrule, joint and butt.

Unfortunately, one of the rings came loose. I was playing so much pool at the time, and making so much money at it, I couldn't imagine the thought of sending the cue to TS for maintenance and being cueless for a week or two, so I just traded it back to Scott. Silly me :o

i dont think if tony was to retire that his cues would be any harder to get than they are now...the issue with getting tonys cues is that there out there you just need 10 dimes plus to get any of his new stuff....plus he just doesnt make that many....like someone else said scruggs has made way more cues than tony and for that reason tims cue will allways be valuable but nothing like the limited runs that some of the cue makers are doing...both make great cues and i like them but trying to compare a scruggs to a BB is not in the same league....maybe if you compare RICHARD BLACK TO TIM SCURGGS you might have a good comparsion....but this is just what i have seen on the secondary market in the past few years....and i have been wrong before....mickey carroll ps the demand will go up on tims cues.....but with the amount out there the can only go so high.....there will be a demand and i price rise on his higher end cues but shouldnt be that great....

My opnion is no I do not see a big jump in value. Reason he has made sooo many cues over the years, that there will always be cues around to buy!
 
I don't see TS cues going down in value any time soon, which is a good thing in the secondary cue market.
My feeling is they will go up in value just a little.
They weren't cheap to begin with but he did build a lot of cues.

I think you are right on target. There are too many TS cues around for there to be a big $$$ demand. I'm still sad about Mike passing and he made a lot of the cues, but there are too many around and supply usually dictates price. A prime example is Searing and Szamboti cues, because they are scarce and people who know cues want to own one they command high prices. If someone wants to own a TS cue all he has to do is wait for the next one to pop up FS and he can usually get a good price on a nice cue. Paul Mottey has retired from building cues and taking orders, but because he built so many cues his cue prices are about where they were before he retired on the secondary market. Supply=Demand......

Thanks for the input guys. It makes total sense that supply/demand=price. I aggree that prices aren't going to go down. But, I can already see a slight increase in value and collectability of the higher end scruggs.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Heck, 20-30 years down the road I'm sure I will have made a great investment at a hell of a price.
