friend of mine brings me a shaft from someone he knows
cracked ferrule

it's 10.80mm / .430"
tenon is .370"
by my math, that's .030" a side :thumbup:
Yeah I've fixed hundreds of those over the years. I usually turn it to 5/16" tennon to repair them.

just glue tip on the tenon, and sand the rest of the shaft down to meet it

Looks like it was a pretty tough ferrule, it was on there loose and only .030 thick for a good while before cracking judging by all the blue chalk that was under it.
Some of the new wonder shafts are drilled out to have thinner sidewalls than I would have thought workable but a hollow cylinder is amazingly strong as long as it is fully supported.

That's an easy fix. It's the crsacks that are the hardest.
