Fellini 1 x 2 Alligator print. Approximate value please?

Case is now up for sale in the wanted/for sale section. Thanks all.

I'm going to put this case up for sale for a friend, but have no idea what
to ask for it. I know there is a vast wealth of knowledge here, so if you
guys could please help me out with the approximate value of the fellini
case pictured below. I just took the pictures this afternoon. There are
some nicks and scrapes on the top and bottom, but overall the case is
in very good condition. There is a link to more pictures at the bottom
of the thread. The latch works great, but there is no key. Very decent
fit up top. Does make a slight suction noise when opened. Thanks all, Dom.

Wow, we got some good eyes here. A fellow member here noticed something that
I didnt. There are two hairline cracks in the lid. One is only 1/4" long and goes from
the edge of the lid into one of the latch holes. The other goes down about 1 1/2"
thru the other latch hole. The lid still goes onto the bottom snugly, and does make
the suction/vacuum noise when opened, but I want to be totally honest when
putting in an asking price. Thanks again Jason!

That is very good condition - the case looks like the leather was kept out of the sunlight. It's an old one too - maybe from the 1970's.

I would say to ask about $400. I haven't bought one in a few years, so I might be a little rusty.

I think you're close.. I sold a brown one for about that a few years ago. The gator model is a tough find. I have only seen 4 counting this one.

Wow! Looks exactly like mine! I was told mine was worth $300-$400 at Valley Forge several years ago.

The expert spoke on a very nice case!
 
Please forgive my lack of knowledge here. I viewed the pics and tried to determine what "I" would pay for one of similar quality. I figured $75 - $125 based on other similar products available. I must conclude that this case was made by a famous maker and therefore has collector value. Quality of construction and materials used seem on par with mass produced cases of today. What make Fellini collectable is the root question here I guess???????

And a darn good question at that. From what I can gather, Fellini and
Centenial along with Kelli cases too, seem to hold their value much more
than most of the other cases of this style. Maybe bacause they are much
more rare? I'm lacking in knowledge too, hence the reason for the posts.:thumbup:

They were the first one made in this exact style (later copied) starting in the 1970's and they were considered the hot tamale of those days.

They also came with and housed a lot of high end cues like Szamboti's and Joss (which were high end in those days) so collectors of those cues like to own appropriate cases.

I have a couple of this exact case, a few others and I have a real ostrich skin one that is perfect and is one of my favorite cases.

Don't remember Centennial, but Kelli{sp?} came out after Fellini if I remember right. Everyone wanted either a Fellini or a Kelli. Box cases were still popular and people didn't carry break/jump cues back then. My wife bought me my Fellini after I got my custom Joss East.
 
FWIW, I have a smooth black leather version of that case and I've been told not to take a penny less that $500 for it.

Thanks Sherm. Another outstanding member here has told me the same
thing. That even with the two hairling cracks in the lid? Thanks again.
