Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Didn't your OPEN team play Masters at VNEA ?

Yes. Bret just made Masters at Valley last year. We won't change our team to avoid playing Masters. Talk of not allowing one Master on a Level 1 team is why I speak up. IMO the Valley tournament is a weaker tournament overall. We have played in the ISPA Level 1 with this team for three years and haven't cashed.

Im not gonna argue with the vnea comment. Would have never thought you guys didn't cash in the level 1 at ISPA.

I do. Are you going to allow the big bad master players in it?

WTF is a master. I beat a few of those Masters players that were stealing in the Level 1 on my way to 7th-8th. Those big bad Masters players are very scary though Gary, thank GOD you are a fluffy Downy soft Open player. I'll decide on Thursday if I feel like running a tournament while all this is going on.Dios Mio!

P.S. Gary I think you are a Masters player and should be moved up, you are a sand bagger.

Mikey,

Just a quick second to say kudos to you for starting this thread.....this is one of the rare threads that absolutely has zero to do with me personally, but it has the awesomeness of a Nascar 15 car pile-up :D

Since the Arizona drama pool department has been quiet the last few months, you've found a way to fill their slot and keep us all reading along...

Thanks Mikey

This got me thinking. Mikey will there be anything special planned for the 1st birthday of this thread, less than a month away?

Also if anyone is looking for another player in this league I may be interested. I'm probably on the lower end of the skill spectrum. It sounds like most of what I consider the good players participate, and it would be good experience for me.

I'm gonna play level two eight ball next year so i can cash

When I made my first post, I didn’t' go back enough to read everything that was said from this weekend. All I can say is.... Well.... there’s a reason I smell vinegar.

WOW can I get a shoulder to cry on too, We had 2 real open players and 1 not so elite player and got our asses kicked. guess we should have played better.

P.S. You guys are better than comedy central !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old boy is rounding up some more money, I told him get at least $1500 together and we will go to him, anything less he's gotta hit the road. I'll call you if and when that goes down. $800 wasnt a bad score for a test drive.

Alright, what's goin on here, no drama tonight?? I can't believe it!! It's far too peaceful :)

Think of how this thread could have gone if DSM teams and players all lost!

Damn, if this is what winning does to folks, maybe my style of play is better for long-term happiness?;)

You guys are lucky to have teams and mates that will go to state...be thankful for that. Some of us can't get 5 guys to show up weekly at 7:00 with a lousy $5 in hand. much less a road trip.

Just a note for clarification...at ISPA, the 'Three Original Players' rule only applies to the Open Divisions. A Master Team may be made up of five players from five different teams so long as they are all from the same League.

Good discussion thus far about the make up of teams (i.e. masters on open level 1 or not). I am absorbing all of these comments and suggestions and trying to formulate some good ideas.

What do you all think about converting to a four man team format? That is yet another option that has been suggested to create more teams...same people, just more teams. A team with only two Masters would be more competitive that way as well (that might fit Mike B's situation).

Mikey, I'd really like to come down Saturday for your 10-ball but this nice weather has my fishing finger itchin'. I really haven't been out yet due to pool mostly so I think I'll have to wet a line this weekend. If I catch a bunch of white bass, I'll invite you up for some blackened bass....mmmmmm yummy!

Ken~ A couple pages back you responded to my question about the possibility of moving the event to DSM... Thank you for answering~ it sounds like our league operators may have missed the boat...It also sounds like one hell of a lot of WORK. After realizing how much behind the scenes stuff that would need to be done I can't blame them at all. However, I do believe that participation would increase significantly and thus more added money and better payouts. I'm very green to how the league system works, I just go play, pay my $5, and have night out with friends. Now that my kids are getting older and my career is very flexible, I would love to see that dialogue begin again. Mike will probably kick my butt for this!! LOL.

Four PERSON teams would be great! Plus~ it would probably lead to the formation of more teams, faster matches, and more entry fees=better payouts.... Kudos!

It's all good now Jeff, I think that was just the exhale after a really tough battle. If you would have seen the match like I did you know both teams deserved to win and there were no losers in the River Center that Sunday afternoon.
