Tip burnishing....

Id like to know what are some of the techniques people are using for burnishing the tip. Ive always just used some water and a piece of leather to burnish my tips. I've tried Porper's tip burnishing liquid but didnt like that it dyed the tip. The water seems to work fine, but I want to achieve a glossy look on the tip when done. Any other liquids out there that you all are using that may achieve this?

You don't need a lathe, to properly burnish a tip players have been doing it for over a hundred year's.

Take some fine grit sand paper and remove any mushroom, then take your finger and moisten it with your tongue and rub your finger on the edge of the tip. Then take a piece of soft cardboard and wrap it around the edge of the tip and turn the cue increasing pressure on the edge of the tip. Be sure to keep the sand paper and the card board off the ferrule during this process.

It is cost effective, very easy to do, and it can be done anywhere with equipment you carry in your case.

Hope this helps:)

And deep inside I knew that she was right.

I use spit and a dollar bill.

I have a container of water by the lathe that I use.
I usually have a wad of Skoal in my mouth so If I try and use spit, its brown.
So, water or spit and a piece of leather work fine.
If you're doing it by hand, Porper's tip burnisher does a great job with either lubrication that you choose.
Porper's burnisher will also take minor mushrooms out just like the prongs on the Ultimate Tip Tool will.

I have to spit my skoal out.... so I going to give the water a shot.

Alright, so we have some other chewers on AZ. Maybe we can package our
brown tobacco spittle and sell it cheaper than Tiger Products Ledr dye and burnisher.

To late

Hog,... I think thats what Porpers "TipTouch" is........Only it's really good chew spit :D:D:D.....Ray

I like Tiger's stuff...been using it since they came out with. Seems to harden the leather IMO and puts a nice shine on the side when burnished with a piece of stiff leather.

Lets go for it and to think all these year I have been just spitting all that money on the ground.
