For those that used the Army M-1 carbine rifle, they will know what “M-1 Thumb” is. Many a cut and badly bruised thumb, and broken finger resulted in loading them improperly.

Well I was tired of getting “Valley Bar Box knuckles” and scraping up cue shafts on the chrome corners of my Valley.

What I did was cut pieces of my old pool table cloth to fit over them…then glued them on. Now I don’t cut my knuckles on them or scrape-up my cue when reaching for a power draw shot and trying to keep my cue level. It was well worth the 30 minutes it took to do it. Johnnyt

PS: One more benefit for me is there is no more glare off them when the sun hits them.
PPS:**** If your table is in very humid conditions...forget about the above idea. We had 6 hours of thunderstorms last night and the cloth/felt on the chrome corners wrinkled up bad. Funny the cloth on the table bed is fine. I'm going to look for some other answer for the corners.

yep

i can feel your pain,as i also qualified with the m-1 but as a bussines oner with 12 valley i cant replace all the rail crome. will hust have to suffer!!!!:confused:

You don't replace the chrome, you put the cloth/felt over it. But 12 tables would be a pain. Johnnyt
 
Johnnyt, can you by any chance post pics of this? My Dad has a Valley bar box in the garage and I'm curious to see what yours looks like with the felt over the rail corners.

Yes I will as soon as I go over to my friends house to pick up my camera. In fact I'm going to get him to bring it here and put the pictures up for me. Johnnyt
 
Does anybody know of any wooden or plastic trim retrofitted for the valley boxes? I got a great table but hate playing on it because it tears the crap outta my cue's finish. I can totally relate to gluing cloth over the pockets, but it'd be nice if there was something in plastic or wood I could buy to just replace all the metal trim.

And Johnny, I remember a while back you had fit your table with new rails & cushions that tightened up the table to play closer to that of a diamond. Would you happen to still have a link to the place where I could pick those up? Much appreciated. I recently aquired my valley.

There ya go. You won't make a ball in the corners hitting 3" up the rail before the pocket on a Valley with these lol. And even though a Valley has a deep shelve, if you hit it a hair off over pocket speed and the pocket says "reject fool" :grin: Johnnyt

Johnny, are you saying that your valley plays like a Diamond because you have ridgeback rails?

NO, I'm not saying it plays AS GOOD as a Diamond, I said it will make a Valley play almost as hard as a Diamond. If the Valley had shallower shelves I believe it would play just as hard as a Diamond Smart table. JMO on that. Maybe Glen can correct me if I'm wrong. Johnnyt

Strange, I've never had that problem with the Valley's I've played on. I have however ripped three pairs of pants as the chrome decoration grabs a pants pocket as I walk around the table during a game:angry:. Had that problem?

the ridgeback rails are cut no different than the stock valley rails. maybe Glen will correct me if I'm wrong.
 
I have a 8 foot bar box at my house i currently having my friend that is a woodworker build me some new corners for mine just so i dont scrape my sticks on it if anyone is interested i will ask him when he is done(depending on how it turns out) if he would want to sell some
